Can I just point out that a question was just brought up about how much wine storage costs others.
Hmmmm, I can’t figure out where I might find any discussion about that type of thing?
Or do these types of business only give discounted rates to discounted wines?
Start a new thread, you will be surprised how the sharks don’t actually bite!
Pro-tip though - make sure you try the search bar first or at least reference that you tried using it. Otherwise that will for sure be the initial response that you receive, ha!
I edited my post to include this information, as it is specific to this thread, and is regarding your first question

Honestly, having spent many years on this board, there is simply no better resource available to find excellent value wines. The same can likely be said of higher end wines, but then, there are many sources pushing higher end wines. For value wines that are actually good, or even great, this board is simply a wealth of information. I’ve found so many of the producers I regularly drink through this board. That said, it does take an investment of time in reading threads. That’s because the greatest benefit of the board as a purchasing resource is finding those who have similar tastes and then using their suggestions. Once you have a read on that it actually becomes rather easy to find great suggestions, including suggestions for value.
As previously mentioned, there are a ton of individual threads on value. Some haven’t been as active lately but can be searched, such as “best value under $x.” I honestly think people get tired of posting the same thread over and over but once someone starts one (or revives and old one) it will often receive a lot of traffic, even if many of the suggestions are repeats from over the years. Other threads, such as “Best Deal/Coupon” are very active and can lead you to great values both in terms of discount and in terms of individual suggestions. Once again it is necessary to know whose opinions you can trust though. Perhaps the best suggestion is simply to start a thread saying what you like and what you are looking for and asking for suggestions. I can’t guarantee it will be super active but it might lead you to great finds.
Re: The giant & Excellent 2023 winegrape crop
Bottom line: Opportunity for us Consumers
I’m often wrong, but, rarely in doubt?
Any growers that chose to custom crush instead of drop their excess fruit will, Add supply to an already oversupplied market.
When you are full, you are full. Winery, Crush facility, our own personal wine cellars? Easier to pass on deals. On the flip-side Custom Crushing in an undersupplied market, often works out rather well for the speculator/grower
This crop will Create opportunities for fine wine at fine prices. Helping the consumer and the CA wine business on the Global Stage, perhaps?
I plan to Make Room for it…
Cheers!!
Large crop does create opportunity and challenges. Making all the grapes into wine is hard enough to find fermenter space, etc… The next big factor, in my mind at least, is cooperage. For red wines especially, who is going to pay for New Oak barrels, and how does that affect the available Oaked wine that has a big part of the overall appeal and value of the end product? Bulk wines in tanks can be sold and bottled and stuff added to simulate oak, sure, but the good stuff comes from 12-24 months in a barrel. My opinion of course.
One obvious difference going into 2023-2025 vs, the previous 3-4 years, 2018-2020 is the pandemic or lack there of. Much of the 2018/2019/even 2020’s to some extent if they avoided smoke, were barreled off BEFORE pandemic impacts or predictions, so money was already spent on whatever cooperage program was in place. Current decision making might hedge a bit against that kind of catastrophic event, but it’s really a case by case thing I think.
I currently pay $25/mo for a locker that holds 12 dN shippers. As suggested here on the forum, I could repack those without the inserts and get 24 bottles in each shipper, so at best ~$1/case/mo.
The only storage options I have is about an hour away in Irvine, CA but their rates seem reasonable. I think its about 35.00 a month for up to 48 cases. If was closer I would’ve purchased way more wine. I should be grateful I live too far away. lol
I believe this was discussed a long time ago when the 92,000 number was first noticed.
I agree with you that WB users are a small percentage of dN sales (5-10%), but note that 92k was for 2020, and they have grown since, so each WB buyer would be purchasing 20 cases EACH YEAR, rather than in total, right?
The largest oak tank in the word. It held 80,000 gallons and was stored in the San Francisco offices of S. Lachman & Co., one of the founding partners of the California Wine Association.
I logged on and it says SOLD OUT. So my question is: do I trust this thread?
I guess they sold all the wine they had left. Maybe they sold everyone’s LTS for good measure.
EDIT: It’s an hour later and they are not sold out anymore. Typical for dN.
I logged on and was able to add the mystery case to my cart and only needed to click “Pay Now” to complete my purchase. So, given that you stated the website said SOLD OUT, no, I don’t trust this thread.
AND, given that dN has provided NO INFORMATION to ascertain how to judge the value of the mystery case, no, I don’t trust dN.
