De Negoce offer (Part 2)

“This is a shiner because the label guy was 2 hours late, we’d closed for the day, and it sat in our warehouse until the morning.”

Vitor, I don’t have direct experience as I have two Eurocaves, but it seems like being a self contained cooling unit you could just replace that if it fails. I see a review on one that lasted 20 years. If it’s at the right price and you like the rest that’d be a good choice.

You say it’s for your garage, does it get hot outside by you? Vinotemp has a great tool to calculate how powerful a unit you’d need for your unit depending on its size and max ambient temp.

Thanks Tim! Very helpful!
Yes, good point on the 400 bottle limit lol…I joined the dN club with the intent of keeping 30-40 bottles. I’m now at ~300 so will get to 400 pretty quickly…but I guess I will need to find another wife if I go beyond 400 bottles haha

Thanks!! Great finding! I didn’t realize they had that tool to calculate the heat load, etc.
It does get fairly hot in my garage during the Summer. Never measured but I would guess around 90ish in the afternoon…

This 1500CD self contained unit seems to have a technical limit of 78F outside, so it will probably struggle…but yes, if it fails, I can later replace it with the 2500CD which is up to 95F outside…

Thanks!!

Surprised 304 is still available…

Agreed, Vitor!
Also surprised that #393 SCM Syrah is still available.
“Maybe”, only 3 barrels = 75 cases.
Seems like the Syrahs are slow sellers.

Indeed…and also the best deals on the site INMHO…however, I may have different preferences but its hard to beat Syrah for complexity and bang for the buck

You guys are enablers! In for a case. I’m on a Pinot buying binge

I’m a huge Syrah guy (favorite varietal), but the one area I cannot really get into is SCM. Tends to be lighter and more Pinot like there, in my opinion.

Hmmm, that sounds great to me–Syrah makes a better Pinot than Pinot (and less expensive) in many cases! Appellations that regularly produce 14.5%+ ABV Pinot Noir have the potential for better balanced and insanely complex Syrah. Economically, PN make sense since it’s more popular, and ‘Power Pinot’ can be quite delicious. Though as I understand it Syrah is on average cheaper to grow–higher yields, less fragile.

I like em BIG, I like em ROUND, I like em JUICY!!! I think that I heard that in a song once.

Greg,
And Syrah is “blendable” while PN USUALLY is not. I love good Syrahs from all over. But as the industry knows, it’s easier to get rid of Gonorrhea than Syrah as the saying goes.

Happy Friday.

yep, the one we recently offered would land somewhere in between a Pinot and a riper-style CC Syrah for sure.

Which #, are you referring to, Cameron??

I also love Syrah (probably my favorite varietal), but tbh I haven’t had much luck with the dN Syrahs I’ve tried (to be fair, only 3 data points so not enough to generalize). 206 and 172 were very “meh” (CT comments also not encouraging), but I loved 217. So 1 success out of 3.

Waiting to complete my dry month next week to open a bottle of 365 and see the Syrah tide turns for me…

Just received delivery of Monterey Co. Chardonnay #384. Fedex is working out fine.
Driver thinks we are having a wedding or big party. Nope, Just a Small party nightly…
Beautiful Glass (bottle) & a wonderful Vertical shipping case(i.e. upright)!! My preference.
The #64 in a horizontal shipping case will be happier in this nice vertical, me too!
Horizontal cases Recycle. Vertical cases Reuse. But I have a hard time with Reduce for dN!!!
Cheers! Have Fun!!

The tide most certainly will turn for you, like it did for me. Prior dN Syrah was either good, but not in a style I really dug, or in a style I like, but not too exciting.

365 hits both boxes. SBC just has great Syrah terroir, across the AVA, if the winemaker is aligned to a style you like, it’s a high probability win.

217 is amazing. We had a bottle of the new 369 last weekend and it is beautiful as well. I have some 365 on order and look forward to trying that. But I agree, the early Syrahs have been a little more hit and Miss than the Cabs. I did not order any more Chalk Hill or Rocks Walla Walla Syrah!

I ordered a case of 217 during the moving sale and I did not get enough. The woman I live with said to me the other day, “I just want that Syrah.” Any other DN recommendations for someone liking that wines profile? Hell, any other recommendations of Syrah/ Shiraz that are not DN for someone who likes that wine? The wine is so good I’ve considered joining the source guess wine club but that’s some expensive juice.
