Cote de Nuits Villages

A couple of really good '96s from JJ Confuron and Bertrand Ambroise had me thinking that I have enjoyed almost every bottle that I’ve had from the appellation (Gachot Monnot, D Bachelet and Drouhin), yet I haven’t tried many others. What other producers should I try?

A standout for me recently was a Patrice Rion CdN Villages VV but I don’t see those wines too many places.

I like the Patrice Rion as well; picked up numerous bottles via a “Last Bottle” marathon. For the price, the 2010 NSG 1er Cru Clos des Argillières and 2010 NSG 1er Cru Clos St. Marc are nice wines.

Anne Gros. Her CdNV is a step up from her already phenomenal Bourgogne rouge, the likes of which I enjoyed this evening ('10).

Anne Gros makes Hautes Côtes de Nuits, but no Côte de Nuits Villages. The difference is: Côte de Nuits Villages is either the strip between the southern border of Nuits St. Georges and Ladoix-Serrigny (southern end) or the strip between Brochon and Fixin (northern end). Hautes Côtes de Nuits are those vineyards that are up the slope to the west above the village vineyards.

As to Côte de Nuits Villages, I like the above mentioned Gachot-Monnot (these are really good, I think) and of course Denis Bachelet. Not too bad also is that of André Chopin in Comblanchien. It’s not spectacular, but well made and inexpensive.

For sure, Roty…

I’ve also had good luck with Jadot:

+1

+1 and the “Le Vaucrain” can be pretty amazing for the money. The 2010 is phenomenal.

Of course, you’re correct, Steven. Thanks, my error!

Comparing Premeaux with Brochon is a little bit ridiculous, but that’s the fault of the ridiculous appellation.

Bachelet makes one as does Domaine D’Eugenie. Both very good and pretty good QPR.

New young generation shift for Gerard Julien of Comblanchien. Son Etienne’s CdN '12 is terrific…on the water.

That´s also what I would have said …

Domaine d´Ardhuys “Clos de Langres” (BTW the last vineyard in the South of the Cotes de Nuits) can be really good … although I haven´t tasted too many vintages.

Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles makes a Côte de Nuits Villages as well as a Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits. I bought both in '05 but have yet to pop one… I wouldn’t have even looked if not for this thread ringing a bell in my memory to say, “hey I have some of these”… Going to put the Bourgogne Hautes CdN ondeck

sorry was a duplicate to the above post, and should be deleted

David Clark is great! As with all his wines punches well above their weight imo. 9 drinking lovely at the mo 10 a little muted I think.

Indeed, David’s wines are great.
Shame that he has moved on from winemaking.
I picked the Brochon Cotes de Nuits with him in 2011. Some ancient vines there…

A real shame he moved on. I have six bottles of the 2009 Domaine David Clark Côte de Nuits Villages.
