Cote de Nuits Villages

+1 on the l’Arlot. Drinks really nice after a few years in bottle.

I’ve also really enjoyed the Domaine d’Ardhuy Clos de Langres.

I’ve been underwhelmed by the 2014 Louis Jadot ‘le Vaucrain’ [Cotes de Nuits Villages] the last couple of hot days. I was hoping that this lighter bodied red would pair with the weather, but this pale 13% abv red is too high on tart cherry flavors, with an acidic edge that does not blur with air. The nose is tight, the palate is cool, lean. It reminds me of a underripe German spatburgunder. This really needs food to be enjoyable, for my tastes. I rarely do this, but after having a glass, I pulled opened a polar opposite wine - a plump/fat/pruney 2007 CNDP to have instead. Not a Burgundy enthusiast so the austere Jadot style eludes me. I’ll give this a B- or so.

PS: Day 3, the acidic edges have been deburred, and the fruit has rounded out a little. It’s more enjoyable now. Maybe it just needs a few more years of cellaring? I didn’t realize this level of village wine took so long to come into form.

Dider Fornerol makes a good CdN villages, especially in the last several years.

I bought a case of Jadot CdNV “Le Vaucrain” 2016 2-3 years ago at a silly low price on a K&L clearance sale of some sort. It was quite underwhelming until mid-year this year when it finally improved. Still drinks like a village wine, but a very good one at this point.

I really enjoy the Bachelet CdNV. Enjoyed it even more back when it cost $25-$30.

Just discovered this thread about one of the best value Burgundy appellations.

Whilst the likes of Galeyrand and Bachelet have seen some serious price rises, others such as Nicolas Potel’s Domaine de Bellene, Berthaud-Gerbet and Georges Noellat, all seriously good producers, are still available for a relative song (sub $40), at least in European markets.

These are all super wines, which only improve with ageing. Definitely worth searching out.

Petit-Roy makes a beautifully light and elegant CdN Villages! Had the 2016 and it was lovely.

Jean-Marc Millot Cote de Nuits-Villages Aux Faulques 2017

Lovely interesting wine for evening easy drinking. Dark fruits, spices, a bit harsh. Palate very subtle bitterness interesting and attractive, dark fruits, chocolate, rounded and soft tannins. A relatively long finish. Gives more than expected and a little differently than its level, and the complexity is more than expected. Sipped with interest and lightness. Will age gracefully for next comming years. Another wonderful wine from the talented producer.
