CLOSED -- Ladd Cellars -- Ageworthy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay -- Old School in Every Way

Hello!

I am Eric Lundblad, and this is my 14th BerserkerDay!

Time flies!

I make Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from West Sonoma Coast, Sebastopol and the deep end of the Anderson Valley. I also make Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel from higher elevation Sierra Foothills, and some Tempranillo. For each, I choose vineyards with interesting/complex soils, old vines (20+ year old)…picked early for interesting, complex & nuanced wines.

To order, all you have to do is FILL OUT THIS GOOGLE FORM with what you want. Once I am ready to ship, I will contact you with a payment request. I accept Zelle or Personal Check. (Sorry, NO Paypal.)

Here are the offers:

The Classics Chardonnay 3 pack - $95

One bottle each:

  • 2022 Cuvee Voile Chardonnay
  • 2018 Cuvee Voile Chardonnay
  • 2020 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

Offering two different Voile Chardonnays THREE years in a row! The Voile workers (sous voile yeast) have been on strike so not sure what the future holds. The Sous Voile Chards are from two old vine vineyards, both more than 40 year old vines, that are far away from each other, yet are kissing cousins in character (the Sonoma Coast above, plus another NorCal vineyard with the same soil/ripening/position characteristics).

The voile character is subtle, and is used to reveal more of the vineyard character (geeky: in addition to ethanol, fermentation produces glycerol, an alcohol that’s one step away from being a sugar, and can give the wine a sweet-ish character…the Voile consumes some/much of the glycerol, allowing more of the vineyard character to show through). The Mixed Chardonnay 3 pack $84

One bottle each:

  • 2022 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
  • 2018 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
  • 2016 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

A great trio. From a Sonoma Coast vineyard with 40 year old vines and sedimentary soil (Burgundy as well), my strong preference for a top quality chardonnay.

The character of my various Chardonnay can be described as a variation of: Citrus and lemon rind, white stone fruit, yellow apples, minerality and saline character, no tropical fruit (with sufficient air and/or cellar time for certain wines), excellent all natural acidity, and little or no oak (2018 was the first entirely neutral oak barrels, prior to that 5-15% oak was typical).

I’m making some of the best Burgundian-styled Chardonnay, both Voile and Normale, on the West Coast. CellarTracker links: 2018 Sonoma Chardonnay, 2016 Sonoma Chardonnay

This group leans to an old world style…the Zin less than the others, but even then.

These are crazy good wines and values. I especially urge you to try the Voile chardonnays. My order is in.

Thanks Eric. All the best to you.

Past buyer here, Eric makes terrific wines, the Chards are stand out for me but that’s no shade on the Pinot Noir. Happy to have a few still in the cellar, had the 2010 Nash Mill Pinot Noir not too long ago and it was so fresh. These wines age well!

This offer should be on everyone’s radar! Eric’s Cabernet Francs are the most Loire-like Cab Francs I’ve had that aren’t actually from the Loire.

and Eric’s Chardonnays are incredible! It’s completely insane that his Chardonnays have not yet caught fire in the marketplace. As far as what I’ve been exposed to, Eric’s Chardonnays are the best currently being made in California. A few months ago, I brought a bottle of his '18 Voile to a nice local restaurant. The sommelier that evening, after taking a sip, walked over to our table and quietly apologized in my ear … “What are you sorry for?,” I asked. “My unprofessional language.”, he said. “Huh? What do you mean?” I was confused. He said, “This … this right here. This is fucking awesome!” I smiled and quietly replied, “Yes. Yes it is. Glad you like it!” Fun stuff!

Order in for a mixed case; interested in making it a case and a half, if possible. Thanks for the great opportunity, Eric!

In for one of each of the Chardonnay packs. A 2017 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay last night was drinking very well.

In for the classic pinots x2!

By pure coincidence, we popped open a 2016 Sonoma Coast Chard last night from a previous BD purchase. It was absolutely fantastic.

I am in for some Pinot packs this year.

Fully agree - delightful chardonnays in a more Burgundian style. Got introduced to the wines on BD and have been buying every year since.

Thanks Chris! I love making all my wines but I esp love the drama of the voile developing (voile= the film yeast that have All the magic) woo Hoo!

One day, voilà, the voile have developed!

Thanks Daniel! The 16 Chardonnay came in with nearly perfect brix, TA & pH and grape development. So that set the tone for all the following Chardonnay that I’ve made!

In for a mixed Chard and classic Pinot pack.

Thanks Marshall, knowing your palette I really appreciate your interest and support

In for the classic Chard and Pinot. One of my favorite Chardonnay producers, excited to try the Pinot for the first time. Appreciate the library offer as I like prefer some age on my wine.

Thanks! I got lucky finding a Chardonnay vineyard with good soil and 40+year old vines!

New to Eric’s wine . . . and my fellow Berserkers are to blame for reeling me back in for yet another BD16 purchase!

In for 2-each of the Mixed Chardonnay 3-pack and the Classics Pinot 3-pack. The wines sound wonderful!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :wine_glass:

Now I really need to just step away from my computer . . . .
