Chicago - Winemaker Dinner with Lisa Tupetz and Max Wagner - Mon 5/19 - Need Restaurant Recs

BerserkerDay German importer Lisa Tupetz and Max Wagner of Heinz Wagner Sekt would like to have a winemaker dinner in Chicago on Monday, May 19th.

We would be tasting three Heinz Wagner Sekts and one or two Rieslings.

@LisaT is looking for restaurant recommendations that are riesling/sparkling/Berserker-friendly.

Please reply to this thread if you can make it. Thanks!

I highly recommend Aboyer in Winnetka as the venue. While it’s a French bistro and not German, the food quality is second to none and they are great for hosting wine dinners. Michael, the chef, will work with you on a customized menu to pair with the wines.

Hello everyone and thanks Patrick for starting the conversation.
I am going to attend the Chicago trade show on May 20th and 21st.
Max Wagner, the founder and winemaker of Heinz Wagner Sekt will attend the trade show as well and we thought that it would be great to do a tasting with Wine Berserkers.

Perfect! Would the 19th work too? Otherwise we can try to make the 20th work as well

I’m not sure how you all will be getting around or where you will be staying but Winnetka and La Grange can be 45-60min by car from downtown. Though both aforementioned restaurants are near Metra (commuter line) stops, the lines can have long headways after commuting hours.

True, both are right across the street from Metra train stops.

I can’t say I’m familiar with Max’s wines and their parings, but BYOB sushi/Japanese spots are pretty ubiquitous in Chicago as well.

I was excited for this but now realized I’ll be flying home that night and likely miss out

Too bad… Next time!

Max and I would be staying in the city because of the trade show we are attending the next day.
BYOB would definitly work as well and I could also bring some Dreissigacker Riesling. Our Riesling meetings in San Francisco are BYOB and we share the meal family style. That would work for me as well.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed, that the order I placed in January will finally ship and make it to the USA before the tariffs are in place…

I’m trying to convince my employee @ENLowery and his wife to join you all, they’d love it! They live in Geneva, far-west suburbs, but easy train access, as there’s a station right there in Geneva

I’m not in Chicago anymore, but the two places that immediately come to mind would be Sun-Wah in Uptown which will be similar to the spots in the Bay you’ve been to, or Silom12 on Milwaukee near the Western Blue line stop. All of this would depend on where you’re staying, and which L line is easiest for you

There are also two Rangoli Indian restaurants that are byo friendly and easy to get to. One is on North Avenue about 2 miles north of the Loop and the other location is on Belmont about 4 miles north of the Loop. Both are easy to get to via rideshare or public transportation.

Silom and Sun Wah are excellent options too.

I’m interested, especially after buying a Max Wagner wine on BD!

Scratch that - I had to change my flight so I’ll be available on Monday

Okay awesome! I will finalize the dinner in the next two weeks and keep you posted. I’m excited for it!

Aboyer is only open thursday-sunday.

Lots of places closed on Mondays

Sun Wah is ideal as @Keith_A_k_e_r_s mentioned
