Bad pizza is universal.
I wonder what the variation is for a NY style slice in NYC.
“I’m looking at Ray’s pizza. You know where that is?”
“Is it Famous Ray’s?”
“No, it’s just original.”
“Famous ORIGINAL Ray’s?”
“It’s just original, Jerry!”

Scored a res at Kasama. Email from restaurant says $50 corkage and 2 750 limit. They specify larger bottles are permitted but it will be more than $50.
Haven’t done the dinner, but really enjoyed the brunch. Pastries were also top notch. Casual atmosphere. My recommendation for brunch is to order to go, and skip the line. You may get angry stares, but this is how everyone in the neighborhood is doing it.
I was at Kasama a year or two ago for an International Wine & Food Society dinner. The food was excellent.
I have a reservation for 4 at Omakase Yume for next month. I reached out beforehand to inquire and I was told corkage is limited to one bottle, $50. Wine list is minuscule. We are debating whether to bring a mag (yes, I would confirm first) and get something off the sake list or to just do all sake (we are very inexperienced sake drinkers). Any thoughts/experiences/reccos with Yume?
I would show up with a mag, but have a backup 750 in the car!
Sorry, I can’t help with Yume. But I can highly recommend 312 Fish Market for their omakase. They’re listed in the BYOB list at the top of this thread. You can find them here.
Thought I mentioned it once, but I don’t see Shokran on the list. If I remember correctly, no corkage fee. But I’m dining there tomorrow so will update if it’s something different. Also note : Cash Only!
Excellent Moroccan cuisine, one block from the Irving Park Blue Line.
Food was excellent, though service was a bit sporadic. We didn’t mind the leisurely pace of the meal as we were engaged in stimulating conversation.
We brought two bottles (grenache/durif blend and St. Joseph syrah) and they charged us a corkage fee of $5.00. I’m guessing it’s $5/bottle and they simply didn’t charge us for the 2nd bottle (which I opened myself). Stemware was basic, but adequate.
I’ve put it on the list Mike.
Everyone, please look at the list in the first post and let me know if anything is closed, changed, etc. Thanks much.
Pasta D’Arte Trattoria Italiana
Norwood Park
$20 corkage. Free on Tuesdays.
I also take issue with this part from La Nonna:
“Absolutely no nearby street parking. Uber or live within walking distance.”
There is plenty of unzoned parking in the vicinity, especially because it’s right across from a large church.
Closed:
Nico Osteria
Goosefoot
Smoque Steak
Boka $50, 2 bottle limit per reservation
RPM corkage is at least $40 now if not more
Smoque steak closing? Crazy. Place has always been packed when I’m there. Bummer.
they are switching to catering only.
raising prices 20%+ so soon probably didnt help. Their #1 sales pitch was the low menu prices
ex. 16oz boneless prime ribeye $53. Now $62
Thanks Jordan. I’ll update the list.
I tried going there on a late afternoon in the weekend and there were no options.
Damn. That makes sense though. Wish them success as a private space.
Not being able to find parking on the specific evening you went doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I just think softening the statement by saying something like “restaurant is located in a residential area and parking can be tight on weekends” would be better.
