Exactly - I recently acquired at auction (from a parcel of 5 unopened cases) some 1979 Trapet Chambertin. The labels said Trapet but the boxes said Rossignol Trapet and indeed it was wine that was in the cellar when the estate was divided that went with the Rossignol group and was released post-divide.

So far, one bottle good, a second bottle terrific and all that one wishes for in burgundy.

I thought the same till I read post 1 where it is stated that because Rousseau and Leroy are unequivocally the top, they are left off the voting list.

So the list is for runners-up, not first or second prize!

Bill, are you saying that, since 04, there is no Leclerc Griotte bottled under Chezeaux?

Hi Alan - Yup.
There is still a Leclerc Griotte as that’s their share of the metayage agreement. But the portion that also used to take a Chézeaux label now wears a négoce label instead.

Alright, silly question, but are these really all of the producers up until say 2007? Better stated, did anyone make a 2002-2008 (already released) that is not on the poll?

David Croix at Camille Giroud has Chambertin. He also had a Beze in 2001.

Of course, in 2009 we will be adding a Chambertin from Maison Ilan from the inimitable Ray Walker. [highfive.gif]

Forgot about that. Would love to try the CG Chambertin. I imagine they were still using the old press for the Clos de Bèze around that time as well. I think I saw them out there this year for 2010s Chambertin as well. Great guy by the way. Thanks for the truly kind (yet undeserved) comments btw. [cheers.gif]


Alright, can I ask another question?
Can we somehow have a few comments/opinions on what exactly speaks to them as the terroir of Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze? In essence, make makes a great one, in your opinion?

Although David wasn’t actually in charge for the 01. I have a magnum of the 02 Bèze - or rather I don’t. It says 02 and it says Bèze, but if it’s 02 then it’s Chambertin, or if it’s Bèze it’s 01. I haven’t bothered cutting the foil to check as it will be a nice surprise one day…

Bouchard garnered strong reviews for their 2002, 2005, and 2006 Chambertin clos de Beze. Anybody have any recent experience with these?

my question was for the BEST producers - so I suppose (hope) people voted for that.

I´m sure there are one or another negociant who made/makes a Ch.
that is not on the list - like Giroud mentioned above.
