Cellar Stats that shocked me

I was going over some cellar statistics (CellarTracker) and I was a bit surprised by some numbers I found. In 2010 I opened 187 bottles of Port or Douro wine from my cellar That was up from 117 in 2009. That doesn’t take into account what I’ve opened from other countries either, USA being in second place at 72 bottles. Glad I opened a 2003 Niepoort VP last night to keep the tradition going

Wow…that’s a lot of Port! I had 4 in 2010…and only 1 was Vintage, 2007 Dow, which I drank on for a month!

How many of those were 375’s?

Wow, that is a pretty impressive number Andy. I feel like a tea-tottler. I only opened 15 bottles of Port in 2010, plus 7 bottles of Madeira.

You’re opening as many ports as I am wine of all types. I’ve only opened two ports in the last year, and I’ve only tasted 22 in my entire wine drinking experience.

It requires a great deal of tasting and research to build the acumen, expertise and palate required to produce valid, discerning notes on the intricacies of a specific type or style of wine. I applaud both your efforts and expertise.

I on the other hand am trying to obtain knowledge on all varietals from all countries. I won’t mention the number of bottles that required last year. (Mainly because I can’t remember.)
