I have exactly the same problem. I unloaded 48 long term bottles from the wine fridges last month & took them to professional storage only to have, like you, another delivery and re-fill the empty space’s in a flash!
Same problem here as I finally had to rent a 4 x 4 space at Storquest. My Eurocave and smaller Kenmore can only accomodate about 150 bottles. My wife and I consume about 1-2 bottles per week and I really just need to delete e-mails from retailers without even looking at what they are selling.
I was in the same boat but I just rented a small 12 case locker at the Wine Chest in Walnut Creek! Now I have to find the time to pack 9 or 10 cases and make the hour drive…
BTW - for those looking for storage in the East Bay/Tri Valley/Central Valley, the Wine Chest is a very good option - $15 a month for a 12 case locker, and they’ll give a 10% discount if you pay a year in advance.
Do you have a basement? I ran out of room in my Eurocave and got sick of offsite storage, so a buddy of mine and I did this:
(Ps - the buddy is John Blaisdell, also on this board)
I do not have a basement, unfortunately - I have a closet that likely two cases will rest in - neither will be long term agers anyway - one is a case of various Rosés and the other a bunch of Cabot…
1-2 bottles a week, CG?? How are you even allowed ON this forum??
i use my air-conditioned laundry room to house about 10 cases of “extra” wine bought with unnecessary and unbridled enthusiasm. if i had a wife she’d be pissed.
Two years ago I “re-did” my underground cellar to increase capacity by 600 bottles to 1,400. By the time my 05 Bordeaux arrived I was already 400 over capacity and needed to buy a Vinoteque. Now I scream no instead of typing yes to the wine ho’s that solicit me every ten minutes.
I looked around quite a bit, and they seemed to be the best deal for storage and access. They have a keypad entry system that allows access between 7am to 11pm, 7 days. That makes it much easier to plan a trip when I need/want to access the locker. And the owner Joe is a good guy - really easy to work with.
Hey, every board has a misfit but I honestly enjoy this board. I will get consumption up to 3 bottles a week but I am afraid that it is still too little
