Order in for the last Carlisle Carlisle. Bittersweet moment.
Enjoy retirement Mike!
2023 is not the last as it was made in 2024. Still, bittersweet. And I already placed my order for six bottles.
It has unfortunately taken me some time to come around to it, but I think Carlisle is the best Old Vine Zin producer and I really love their syrahs and two acres (Mourvèdre fan). It will be super sad to see it go, I really wish they had found someone to keep it going. Itâs such an elegant and full style.
Yeah - I have re-arranged buying to try to max out as much Carlisle as I can store. Funny, when I look at my current Carlisle inventory - itâs not as much as I thought it would be - the reason is I actually drink them! I am a little guilty of holding certain wines like museum pieces - not the case with Carlisle - which makes me feel good.
Very large order placed this morning. Thank you to Mike and his team. Posted in the Carlisle thread
How many bottles in total did you order / Wish Request?
Ainât it the truth â given the choice reaching for Carlisle, any Carlisle, is wonderful cellar pull.
At age 75, and Carlisle comprising the largest part of my collection, I decided a few years ago to limit myself to one case an offering, a limit I have observed. I ordered a case (with two bottles each of the James Berry Syrah, Compagni Portis, and Piner Olivet being the other wines). But, I also wish listed four bottles of the Compagni Portis, as it, and The Derivative, are the only dry white wines I buy.
Havenât tried any of Mikeâs whites. Seems Iâm missing out only ordering reds.
The Derivative is sensational.
I see 2022 Derivative 81% Semillon and 19% Muscadelle. Unique blend. For decade purchased Morlet La Proportion Doree, primarily Sauv Blanc blended with Semillon, some vintages up to 1/3. Adored the wine on release but learned (the hard way) drink young.
Ordering a couple of cases today
I went through the exact same thing last night when I read the mailer. I thought I had oceans of Carlisle in the cellar, but I donât, because I drink them!
Buy it all and buy it while you can!!
Ordered 3 cases plus Wish Request one additional (if exact bottles unavailable said Iâd take any reds).
I wish that Mike had a chance to work with Montafi fruit in 2023 and 2024. I am sure there are going to be, and deservedly so, a lot of âwish listâ allocation requests for the last mailers here. We have been buying for 20 years and have never been disappointed with the Carlisle wines. As others have mentioned, that is probably why they do not last long in the cellar.
Hey Ed,
If you liked Montafi, we have a real treat on next Januaryâs offer that I think youâll enjoy. ![]()
Awesome! Canât wait, Mike!
I asked @M_Officer this question via email yesterday, but they expect to have 4 more releases after this one; two normal size releases in 2026 (I assume the rest of the 2023 vintage) and then two smaller releases in 2027 (I assume the final 2024 vintage).
I actually have a pretty funny story from the eBob board days. I canât remember the exact bottle or topic but I was making a comment on a Carlisle bottle (I wasnât on the list at the time) and thought it was a fairly astute opinion and some guy named Mike Officer had to reply and totally contradict and disagree with my statement. I then proceeded to follow up his comment with one that read, âWho does this yeahoo think he is? He doesnât know what heâs talking about!â My good friend Dale private messaged me and said, "Jared, he just happens to be the winemaker and owner of Carlisle! Holy crap I was embarrassed, lol! Mike then messaged me and told me he just put me on his list and that he would send me a few bottles of wine. Some of the most fun bottles of wine Iâve drank since have been Carlise!
