Cameron Hughes Cab recommendations?

599 is already sold out. Drat

I doubt that’s permanent.

Thanks for chiming in, Cameron. I ordered the 599 and have no plans to drink it any time soon.

Is the 502 from Spring Mountain? If so, I had it last week, very nice for the price and I believe the Spectator gave it 88 pts which is about right. It is a pretty straightforward cab that will develop a bit further and at $18 its a no brainer.

It’s back.

Order placed.

On the basis of my tastings of the 2012’s I orderd a case of 596- Monte Rosso, 6 bottles each of 597, 599, and 600.

I have the lot 545 coombsville and it is just NOW coming around. in august of 2014 it was too young. Lot 515 Monte Rosso was spectacular in september last year.

These wines are all values IMHO, trying to find 12’ or 13’ cabs of this quality at 30 a bottle is tough.

Lots 600, 599, 596 are $22, $22, $26 respectively, today

A few vintages of the private reserve are $59 as well

Quite a bit cheaper than Costco, which doesn’t have the full lineup.

There are others Lots marked down too.

Peeved at self for paying more just on Sunday!

I tried lot 600 the other day and was really, really impressed. It was my first CH cab, and I kinda went into it not expecting to love it, so I was very pleasantly surprised.

Very young, but already delicious with great fruit and complexity. Absolutely singing on day 2. Went back and bought 4 more the next day.

An incredible value at the $25 per. Color me a fan.

Glad you enjoyed and welcome aboard. If you ever need any rec’s feel free to PM me.

I’ll definitely take you up on that Cameron - really appreciate the note!

They are having a sale, order some.

We had a half bottle of Lot 468 last night - like a very nice young St Emilion. I liked it more than the SO though. A bit too young for her.

So I had to go to a cocktail party hosted by some PTA/PTO members on Friday, and I figured a bottle of CH Lot 555 would be a good thing to take, since I didn’t know these people well, and what might be poured/available. There’s a dozen other wine bottles on the table and in ice buckets, I pop open the cab and have a glass out of a plastic cup! Yum although it warranted better glasses and maybe a little air. Other people try it…and its the first bottle drained. So I didn’t really get much more! :frowning:

Definitely a popular styled wine if all that kind of crowd guzzled it up.

Stopped drinking these wines with lot 200.

Great leaves more for the rest of us. Lot 686 and 701 are GREAT Cabs for the money.

Are they less oaked out and more balanced now?

Yes. Lot 686 is what Beringer Knights Knights Valley Cab Sauv. USED to be like. Grippy tannins, nice fruit.

I was served a Lot 575 cab/merlot/syrah blend on Monday night. Meh. Potable but totally generic. Sweet black cherry and chocolate. Not too oaky, and just 14.1%. It was served next to a 13.5% Portuguese cab from the Lisbon appellation and they were hard to distinguish. I’d rather abstain than drink boring made-to-a-formula wines like these.
