Which SBs are you referring to that are an overly oaky fruit salad at $80?

And it is a simple answer as well. You are entitled to your money back, which I’m sure they will offer you.

From a retailer that actually carries single bottle shippers and bottles that cost somewhat more than the shipping (or maybe is something that was irreplaceable) it would not be unreasonable to ask for replacement.

You keep saying the bottle was damaged, what was the damage as the wording makes it seem like something other than broken?

Yeah, the lip is chipped, with some small cracks running from it. No drips yet, the crack doesn’t extend below the cork. Perhaps that points towards handling prior to shipping.

I’m going to suggest you might be overthinking this. The wine is fine, put it on the counter and open it when the occasion suits.

If the neck is cracked just pull the cork straight out without leverage on the lip.

Micah,
awhile back with dN, I had a damaged bottle too, glass was chipped, I asked support what to do? The answer was try to open bottle carefully, if glass appears to be smooth, pour into a decanter. I’m still alive today.
There was only single bottle over hundreds of cases ordered from dN.

Cheers, Tim

I got home from work yesterday to find my wife had made a delicious short rib dinner! Then I realized she used a Lot 14 to make it… :face_with_peeking_eye:

assuming you only got six of those, that hurts

I bet that was a DELICIOUS dinner! :face_savoring_food: Did you drink an X14 with the meal? :man_shrugging::wine_glass:

I’m not sure what wine made me make that statement. Offhand I’m thinking of Patel and Crescere, and Carte Blanche, but I think they are all priced in the $60s, so they don’t really support my statement. Basically I think the wines get too big and fruity when they need to support a high price point. Would love to be proven wrong.

My wife won’t cook with anything I wouldn’t be willing to drink on my birthday. Drives me nuts. But I guess that’s less insane than owning half of 3000 bottles of wine when you basically stopped drinking two years ago, so I probably need to let her open whatever she wants.

I haven’t tried the first 2 you mentioned and I wasn’t aware that Carte Blanche made a Sauvignon Blanc. Their winemaker is Maayan and his style is not a big fruit bomb so I might be thinking of a different carte blanche than you are.

Grab yourself a bottle of La Pelle sb if you can find some and that will give you an idea of his style at a reasonable price. From there look into MOWE, Gamble Reserve SB, and Melka Mekerra proprietary white which are all phenomenal sb but at the higher price points. Aperture Collage is another great one made by Jesse Katz that leans more tropical notes I would highly recommend as well. Those high end ones might change your mind on expensive sb being too big and fruity. If you’re ever around central CA I’ll gladly share a bottle so you can try some.

Problem solved here at the Ballard residence: my wife doesn’t cook.

You’re lucky - my wife DOES cook.

To be fair, her cooking is hit or miss, so I prefer to cook most of the meals. When using wine in cooking, I use either leftover red wine from the night before or a white or rose from the fridge, depending on the recipe.

The Carte Blanche was listed as a proprietary white (mostly SB) and I think 2014 was the last vintage. It was really good, the best of the three I mentioned, but quite big. I’ll look for the others you mentioned.

New Release Lot 58 Pinot, “best Pinot released to date”. Any ideas?

Whole production? Why would a producer do that?

Sounds like something from Shane Finley

At some point we’re going to run out of best wines yet, but I really like Cam’s taste in Pinot Noirs, and the prices are always great, so it is probably hard to go wrong. They also seem open for business quite a bit sooner than the others. Sounds like a pretty typical RRV Pinot. Cam getting the whole production suggests a winery going under or they made something that didn’t align with their house style.
