I looked in my ct notes - apparently I’ve only had one Hanzell and it was 20 years old and great.
My last Sonoma trip we did Repris and Hanzell. Both were outstanding across the board.
Lot 63 | 2024 Moon Mountain District Chardonnay ‘better than’ Lot 4 Sonoma Coast 2023 Chardonnay??
Sorry, I was in the middle of something when I posted this so I didn’t get to explain my reasoning. Stuff in parentheses is from Cam’s offer text.
- Price: $85 (“$80+”)
- Vineyard: Trinity Ridge (“single-vineyard Moon Mountain”)
- Elevation: “dramatic site with its breathtaking views high atop Moon Mountain” (“one of the highest elevation sites on Moon Mountain”)
- Scores: 94 Jeb, 94 Vinous for 2023 (“Mid-90’s scoring (previous vintage)”)
- Tasting Notes: “Abundant citrus and floral aromas introduce a rich, silky palate layered with crisp apple, delicate pear, and brioche, which carry through over a lingering finish accented by subtle spice and mineral notes.” “lemon confit, tangerine peel, mint, slate and dried herbs” (“Apple and pear notes conspire with lemon confit, brioche, beeswax and crushed slate in a beautifully complex bouquet with just a kiss of lavender coming off the top. Deep and layered across the palate with fantastic texture on entry with lemonhead and crushed slate”)
- Other notes: Producer’s 2023 was their first vintage of this wine, so they may have been seeking to “right-size” their 2024 release. In addition, some of their wine has been floating around heavily discounted in the past year, indicating low demand
That’s what pulled me in, although I’m a little skeptical with the rhetoric after The Malbec Incident. I cracked another Lot 04 tonight and its singing, so if this is even close to that, its worth a flier.
What was the “Malbec Incident?”
Multiple Malbecs were stated to be the best Malbecs ever…
Yep, that.
Come on guys.. You know the next wine is always better than the previous. How many vintages of the century have we had in the last 100 years? ![]()
I mean, at $11.50 /btl to my door, its easy to overlook the hyperbole! Really, as long as its better than Merry Edwards SB, I’m happy

Maybe I’m missing the joke, but why would we think it would be better than Merry Edwards SB, a widely admired $45 bottle?
just a reference to a guy who likes to troll this thread
Sadly, communications with CX’s ‘support’ (support@camxwine.com) AI Lisa is taking up more unnecessary time to reference shipping questions than directly contacting a live person. Seemingly, the current computer generated responses are recognizing a patron’s name or address first over the submitted order # in question.
Lisa sent me an email confirming my request for a hold on 3 shipments. Soon afterwards i got an email that all my orders were on their way. Luckily a human was able to turn them around.
A week ago, the AI told me a human would be in touch with me about some delivery issues. Hasn’t happened yet. Edit: they’re looking into it.
Crickets for me on any shipping notices…I’m not losing any sleep over it though.
I’ve received one wine so far, lot 34. Lot 33 and 41 shipped and on their way.
It’s even better at $25 a bottle ![]()
