To me this seems like it’s sourced from Rancho Pequeno. That’s a vineyard owned by Bart and Daphne Araujo. The vineyard is right on the northern border of Oakville off the Silverado Trail, as Cam describes. Their daughter Jaime makes a single vineyard wine for her Trois Noix label off the vineyard where the 2021 sold for $150. They have released another 2022 cab already, but not from that vineyard, suggesting they may have sold off the Rancho Pequeno fruit in 2022 to Cam.
Here is a link to the description of the 2021 wine:
I think it’s going to be interesting having two different companies making offers. Today I decided to go with the dn Offer primarily because it was a 2021 and I felt like I had plenty of opportunities to buy Napa 2022 but less opportunities for Good 2021 offers (Which seemed to be a year that had more favorable widespread enthusiasm).
The email is from winevip. You have to sign up there.
It’s not from Cam X directly. TBD when Cam X can sell directly to consumers. Till then, looks like the releases will be this way
The clue about the vineyard being an estate vineyard on the northern border of oakville off the Silverado Trail would seem to narrow this down quite a bit. The picture below is from the Vinous map of Oakville focusing on the northern border by the Silverado trail. My original guess was Rancho Pequeno based on the geography, but as someone pointed out the oak treatment on the wine from there seems pretty different.
Edit: after looking at some of the wines from surrounding vineyards it looks like it might be the B Cellars Giannone Vineyard Cabernet. Retail is $165. Only the 2021 version is listed on their site while they list many other 2022 cabs suggesting they may have not released 2022. Here’s the link to the 2021 version:
I believe the write-up only states ‘legendary winemaker’…and separately references French oak (but doesn’t conflate the two to be French winemaker). I believe Kirk Venge is their consulting winemaker, so that would certainly fit the bill of ‘legendary’. Very good guess.
I’m really tempted to purchase this one, but requiring a full case purchase is a big barrier for me given limited storage (plus if I don’t like it that’s a lot of wine to use up). I’d bite if they would offer this as a half case option.
