Bordeaux 2023

You are right. Looks like I paid about the same for 16/19/23
I was hoping for a bit lower to justify a larger purchase. Instead I’ll back fill a bit as space is limited. Bought just enough to keep my vertical going.

From Livex
Château Giscours 2023 has been released at €40.8 per bottle ex-négociant, down 18.4% on the 2022 opening price.

Château L’Eglise-Clinet 2023 has been released at €210 per bottle ex-négociant, down 19.2% on the 2022 opening price.

Château Pichon Baron 2023 has been released at €103 per bottle ex-négociant, down 23.4% on the 2022 opening price

Canon / Les Carmes tomorrow. Hoping for a PLL-level price drop

I had forgotten that 2016 PLL was that “low” EP. I passed as I was shocked that it had risen so much from the $83 I paid for 2014. I later backfilled a few bottles at a much higher price :persevere:

I bought a case of the 2014 from Premier Cru for $58. Still waiting.

Rauzan too? (Yes it appears so from post above.)

wen VCC? :berserker: :berserker: :berserker:

You got ripped off. They lowered the price to around $33 later on. I had stopped buying from them years before but that was one of the things that finally pulled me through the knothole on the fraud. There was also an insanely cheap Raveneau offer around the same time.

Even if so, theres some good vintages of Canon available at good prices - e.g. 2019. I will likely buy one case, but no more. Same for Carmes, but thats with a significant load of 20, 21, and 22 already.

Depending on pricing, might pare down Canon and buy Troplong

None? Giscours a mutliple 96+ (up to 98) scoring 3rd growth from margaux under $50 a bottle? Galloni says best wine he’s ever tasted of theirs.

The convo on discord was universally to look back at, e.g., 2015 (at least in the UK broadly the same price but with 10 years storage). I cant comment on the 23, but just sharing the opinion that people mentioned.

How does one get into said discord?

Having recently had the 2019, and tasting the 2023 Canon 3 times, I think the 2023 Canon will be the better wine.

Seeing as how I don’t think anything has sold out, no pressure to buy anything this time around. Once the cards are all on the table I will definitely have some buys however.

I think something that has gotten lost in all of this vintage is that the overly judgmental chatter about pricing seemingly forgets that thousands and thousands of jobs (if not tens of thousands of jobs when you consider the retailers selling the wines) are attached to this. How do you think those folks would feel if they knew there was a bunch of folks commenting negatively every time a wine comes out?

What if the shoe was on the other foot, and people were negatively posting about things going on in your world?

IDK, a lot of people work for cable companies and the government at all levels…
