Best digestible sparkler for mass-mimosas?

My wife is Purdue bound for my son’s PKA Mom’s weekend next week and Mimosa’s are on the schedule. Without intervention Andre Cold Duck is sure to make an appearance.

I’ve suggested Cristalino Cava as an acceptable option at under $9/brl, but Im not sure they can find it in W. Lafayette.

Anyone have other recommendations for inexpensive sparkling for Mimosas in volume (on a college budget?)

I just posted that for the pic…that price is high…you can get the stuff for $12 for 750.

Cava from Trader Joe’s is $6 in SoCal.

Cava all the way. Brand doesn’t matter that much as long as it’s dry.

I find Prosecco (the cheaper ones) make for a very average mimosa due to the overt fruitiness and extra sweetness.

I’ve tired many cavas, Prosecco, and domestic sparklers over various weeks vacations, and cava wins all the time for taste and value.

I will also add… bad domestic sparkling, like Andre, make for a horrible mimosa.

Also perhaps most important is high quality fresh squeezed orange juice.

Anna de Codorniu is my cheap go-to cava. Surprisingly enjoyable on its own if you want to go that way, and you won’t cry if everyone makes a mimosa out of it. Easy to find, and around $10-12/bottle. Look for the white bottle.

Come on, it’s WB where “cheap red wine?” thread ends up at DRC.

I think something made in richer style works well with the acidity of the OJ. Perhaps a Krug Clos du Mesnil, or if in a pinch a 2004 vintage. Older Bollinger, such as 1990 La Grande Annee might work too.

I think it’s against my fraternity vows to provide any aid to PIKE. It’s certainly against my morals to provide aid to Purdue.

That being said, grapefruit juice in a mimosa goes a long way.

Get whatever is cheap and sweet - the orange juice will drown out any quality champagne anyway

If you want a $10 bottle you can actually drink a serving of without the juice as well, I’d recommend to find Segura Viudas

More expensive than the base bottling but worth to try is their Brut Reserva Heredad (the one with the metal ornament on the bottle).
Good stuff, but perhaps a bit outside the Mimosa-range in price.

I agree with all of this. Another problem with Prosecco is it doesn’t hold the bubbles as well as Cava.

Segura Viudas is my choice. Cristalino is fine too, but I think Segura is a bit better. They’re both available just about everywhere.

I’m gonna go another direction and recommend a nice Blanquette de Limoux. Martinolles is solid, and so is Saint-Hilaire.

The correct answer is that, regardless of quality, all sparkling wines are equally ruined by the addition of orange juice.
Buy whatever cheap fizz you come across first, and keep a side bottle of the good stuff for yourself to enjoy unadulterated.
