Weak tea, but perhaps someone really wants a code…
FORYOU20 $20 off $100, valid for next 30 days
fwiw, some orders placed during the ebates 20% cash back days on WDC didn’t track.
hard to believe but I’m finding RMN to track more reliably than ebates.
also if one is looking at the Esmonin Gevrey Chambertin and thinking they are offering the lieu dit based on the picture, that’s not what I actually rec’d, which was the regular village level bottling.
I had the same issue with rakuten cash back being delayed. I still haven’t received it yet.
BTW if anyone is in the Texas WDC region they have the 2016 Cigliuti Barbaresco Serraboella for a really good price of $52. I am sadly not in that region, but happened to come across it.
If you didn’t receive the item that was listed on your order, you should definitely take it up with CS. I ordered an Armagnac Reserve and received the regular bottling. I reported it to them and they immediately sent me the correct bottle and told me to keep the original.

I’ve had that happen before, but this is a case where they used the wrong visual linked to a listing, and I was hoping that maybe I would get that. Actual order form stated G-C, not G-C ‘Clos Prieur’. Any I don’t know enough about Burgundy + nomenclature to be sure how a lieu dit (but not 1er) should be labeled. No big deal.
On the bright side, ebates/rakuten did track my order - after a trouble ticket was submitted.
Any ideas if WDC will be getting coupons out again? Seems like quite a while since any new (25-33%) ones have popped up. Anyone talked to them? Think it’s a lull or are they losing $$ on them?
Unless they’re getting a much better deal than my small shop (which they probably are), retail is usually somewhere in the 35-45% range over what was paid wholesale. So, probably not losing money except on maybe a tiny fraction of the purchases.
It’s a little more complicated than that. It’s almost certainly true that Revenue > COGS for most of their sales, though not necessarily on some of my Stewardship 20/50 purchases, and certainly not my 49/50 purchase . However, you still have to account for their other expenses and once you get to the net profit line they are probably negative. That said, they are a growth company, or at least that’s their business plan, so losing money at this point is acceptable.
My guess is that they have cut back drastically on their promotional budget and are spending a lot more on capex. That’s definitely what they should be doing. If we’re lucky, they are back loading promotions into the end of the year, at which point they will hopefully have resolved their infrastructure issues, and happy days will be here again.
Thanks for the Vivino coupon. Stacked with Rakuten 15% (which I’ve never seen before for Vivino) and free shipping, there are good deals out there, even though selection can be limited.
The 2018 Booker My Favorite Neighbor Cabernet Sauvignon is still on for $39.99 with free shipping on 4 bottles. With up to 30% off, haven’t seen a better deal on it.
Here is one amazing Vivino deal (seller is World of Wine, LTD, Ca.):
Armilla Brunello di Montalcino 2015
$30.99 per bottle if you buy 12, shipped free, then code SIP15 and Rakuten 15% cash back reduce the price to under $25/bottle all in.
From Kerin O’Keefe at Wine Enthusiast:
From one of Montalcino’s under-the-radar gems, this is a fantastic effort for the hot vintage, opening with classic varietal aromas of underbrush, leather, wild berry and a balsamic whiff of camphor. Smooth, full bodied and enveloping, the delicious palate combines finesse, great fruit and balance, doling out crushed raspberry, cherry compote, licorice and baking spice. It’s already almost accessible but offers years of drinking pleasure. Drink 2021–2030.
