Bergman Estate

Just received an email for the upcoming release of Bergman Estate wine in Napa. Anyone have any insight? I was first informed about Bergman years ago from @Roy_Piper, who all will agree knows a thing a or two about good upcoming wines in Napa.

Family estate on the north side of St. Helena, neighbor with El Molino. Disney exec, wife and kid(s) heavily involved. Abreu farms. Graeme McDonald made the first couple vintages as a custom crush at Mending Wall, then a switch to Nigel Kinsman around the time the production moved back to the brand new estate cave/facility.

I received the email as well. I don’t recall signing up, but very well probably did. Based on who is involved in the project (which is impressive), I’m expecting another one of those $300+ first releases. Official guess is $325.

Not a knock, just an observation based on previous trends.

Really hope not…although not at the $300+ level 001 was recently tough enough (with another supposedly coming in fall). Then Bella coming up, not sure I can add another. But, if others can and they sell out that’s great for the Bergman’s! Already can’t drink my cellar in my lifetime…

I have visited a few times. Wines are very very good. Lovely property with a gorgeous winery on site. Everything done in house and all wines are estate. Made by Nigel Kinsman.

I also signed up a year or two ago and forgot until I got the email. Anyone know why there was a shift from GMac to Nigel?

The cab is fantastic. Has a good amount of CF as well. Im assuming probably 300 plus per bottle. Great wine though.

Tasted the wine, and the 2021 Red is AWESOME. The Chardonnay is quite good (though not referenced in the offer).

Super balanced, but not lacking in texture and complexity. Really successful project for Nigel.

Sorry, left out something critical for context. Tasted it against a 95 Togni (winery late release), and the comparison was not unfair. There was some clear underlying qualities that were quite similar. Really helped frame my high opinion of the Bergman.

Thanks, everyone. This is helpful info. If it’s $300 per bottle, I think that’s an easy pass.

The 19 i tasted was really good. Sounds like the 21 hit the mark as well.

The 2021 cab is the real deal with a release price of $295/btl.

Following up here with some more information. https://bergmanestate.com/ Inaugural release is 9/17 for the 2021. Correct on pricing above at $295. Tasted the 2021 this week. My CT note:

70CS 18CF 6PV 6M. 250 cases. In bottle 4 months. 6th leaf on vines. Stunning new vineyard at 500-700 feet near lower portions of Spring Mountain. Abreu planted/designed/farmed. 5 hour decant. Tasting blackberry and mulberry over integrated red fruits. Darkest profile of 18/19/20 vintages maybe due to highest percentage of PV (which I love in the blend). Nigel Kinsman winemaking touch in blending (brought to barrel by Graeme Macdonald). Fruit smooths out with time in glass. Dark chocolate “ring” around palate. Just a baby with tons of age/life ahead in structure, hints of dry tannin/minerality in youth. Fantastic decision to choose this vintage for the premiere release! Superstar team. Such an exciting wine (and project) that will only get better!

Brad Grimes made the 2018 (third leaf). Graeme Macdonald made the 2019/2020. Graeme put the 2021 in barrel and Nigel Kinsman finished the wine. Nigel is full winemaker 2022 forward.

I am going to assume for anyone who signed up on the mailing list, you have access to purchase. I never recieved e-mail notifiation or anything about this but rather just poking around on the site and clicked on “Cart” and it brought me to the “Preferred Access” page.

I just put in my order for a 3pk. Also providing the shipping charges (Texas) below. Wines will ship in November.

Inflation is hitting all of us, but $35/bottle shipping is horse manure! That is my nice way of saying something less polite!

Any idea why so many winemakers in such a short period? Especially of that pedigree.

Offer is live. Anyone biting? The CT scores are 98-99. Pedigree alone and combination of winemakers is intriguing. $295/btl in 3 packs.
