Bergman Estate

I was on the fence regarding purchasing from Bergaman . After Bella Oaks and Kinsman I think i’m tapped out on the number of Nigel projects I can support at $290+ and I feel a lot better directly supporting the Kinsman label

Definitely fair. The bergman wine is great but i get buying that many wines at that price point is tough

For whatever it is worth they do everything in house and all wine is estate. Winemaking, crush, bottling, barrels, etc. Price of course is always personal, but IMO this is not a wine to miss.

So if you had to choose between all of the other Nigel projects which one would you lean towards.

this sounds like 20 other wines. their own bottling line? doubtful.
barrels are coming like everyone else’s.

not saying it’s not great wine. but they aren’t a one-off. no one is.

Good question. I haven’t tried all his projects, namely Bella oaks, Impensata, Accendo, Wheeler farms, probably a few I am missing.

I haven’t tried the KE label but I have purchased some of the cabs.

Sounds crazy but yes they have their own bottling line!

As I said price is personal, but having been to the estate and tried the wines I do think they wines are worth strong consideration.

Just an observation, but this inaugural offer did not sell out. Received an email earlier this evening that said that the current offering is now closed.

Do you know if they are hand bottling or not?

And having your own bottling line comes down to space and $$$ - and with prices like this, my guess is that they are very well funded.

Cheers

Larry, check out their instagram page-there’s a couple videos of them bottling. “Hand” bottling yes, but with small versions of the [italian] machines in the cave. Looks like it averages 36 bottles a minute

Google Bergman and Disney-you’ll find the funding. No expense spared here.

Gotcha - kinda what I figured. And none of this is an indictment of their wines whatsoever - they are most likely very well made.

Cheers

So in my eyes this definitely falls under a vanity project with that much backing behind them…Just my take

Doesn’t taste like a vanity project. Wine is delicious.

Vanity projects can still taste delicious, can’t they?

So what defines a vanity project? Name on the label? Funding source? Fruit source? and does it matter?

Its a really good wine. Wouldnt call it a vanity project. Sure its expensive. But its very well made!

Apparently I’m not the only one that feels that vanity is a bad word to add!

For me, vanity wines are the ones where the label outweighs the quality.

In my mind the definition in the context of of small, independent wineries is “a project that is undertaken for the sake of gaining praise, fame, or approval, rather than for economic reasons”

Yao Ming was a vanity project.

Drew Bledsoe was not.

And I know Ming didn’t have his own vineyard, etc.
