Bedrock Spring Release

We’re excited to share that our spring release is coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

In the release will be the first white and rosé from 2024: Sonoma Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Ode to Lulu Rosé, along with our 2023 Sauvignon Blanc from the beautiful Judge Vineyard.

On the red side, we have the 2023 Sonoma County Cab and a lineup of old vine gems: the 2023 Evangelho ‘Areio e Vento e Amor’ super-cuvee from Frank’s favorite block at Evangelho, 2023 Evangelho Carignan, 2023 Bedrock Vineyard Zinfandel, 2023 Belloni Zinfandel, 2023 Esola Zinfandel, 2023 Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon, and our “Ode to Joel” wine, the 2023 Buffalo Zinfandel.

Closing out the release is a 3-pack of 2023 Syrah from the great Hudson Vineyard containing a trio of wines that replicate what we did our first year working with the vineyard back in 2008. From fruit from the same T-West block, picked the same day, the three are made in distinctly different styles to showcase the unique interplay of site and winemaking. Whole-Cluster, Co-Fermented and Pleine de Chêne are back, baby! (well, for one last vintage)

The 2023s continue to show why this is a truly special vintage that may never be repeated. We can’t wait to share these wines with you.

Those who have not yet placed an order will receive the First-Timers Release on Wednesday, February 19.

Any questions please reach out!

Best,
Morgan and Chris

:wow:  :pile_on:

Going to be tough to pick through these.

I’ve only started drinking Bedrock in the last year or so, and mostly the Zins. What’s the word on this Syrah trio?

This the release I’m least familiar with (looks like 1 or 2 new ones too?) - any thoughts to share on them? Will listen to the podcast too

I’d stick to the podcast and buy what you know if you are unsure. There are many varying opinions on the different wines Bedrock produces. I will probably buy more of what I have generally liked best v buying bottles of something I don’t know.

And then the exact opposite of what I just posted, IF you are new to the list, try buying more than normal; maybe an extra bottle of each wine you are interested in so you can try one young to see what style you like for future releases.

Welcome to Wine Berserkers!

No Gambrels it looks like.

This release is all about the Evangelho Carignan for me (plus loads of Lulu on top of the boxes already bought)

I haven’t tried - how is it?

I need to keep this at half a case…have so much Bedrock. Not sure it will be possible! They have not released an Esola since 2020. If you like a light tasting wine with soft but distinct (is that possible?) fruit this is it. The Sonoma Cab is also perfect to stock up on for a week night. Thinking of trying the Evangelho ‘Areio e Vento e Amor’.

The Esola if I am not mistaken comes from granite soils. It always reminded me of a southern Rhône

The Belloni Zin caught my eye. Brings back a lot of Ravenswood memories.

Yes, I had not thought of that but an excellent comparison. Has anyone had the Areio?

I’ve had one bottle of the 2018. Very tasty, has the brighter/lighter Evangelho character with the blend skewed more Mourv heavy, good length and concentration, came across very young when tasted this year so anticipate a long life.

Here’s my tasting note form the ‘17 Areio. I didn’t buy anymore after this one bottle.
A Zin with more intensity of fruit. Not extracted, pure. Soft entry with a nice mineral tinged, spicy finish. Comes across as a quality Zin based field blend. At $75 not too sure it’s a QPR, but it’s a very nice wine.

I loved the 2019:

  • 2019 Bedrock Wine Co. Areio e Vento e Amor Evangelho Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Contra Costa County (11/9/2021)
Tasted over two evenings, this is the essence of Evangelho, reduced to a concentrate. Every element of the wine is more intense, from the inherently sappy fruit, to the bracing finishing acidity. That concentration makes itself even more evident on the finish, which carries on like David Crosby in his prime, pouring out his heart on Almost Cut My Hair. The sweetness and bitterness blend into harmony, and after a deafening crescendo a gentle descent into silence that echoes like a dream.

Sounds like I should at least try it. Will be interesting to see the price.

When young, high acid, bright red fruited, a bit tannic on the finish without air. Generally use it as a really good pizza wine

Here’s my note on the 2017 last year

Now this…was special! Evangelho is not my favorite Bedrock offering but this was an incredible bottle. Pure, red fruits, raspberry, and loads of acidity in a medium-bodied frame. It glides across the palate but at the same time offers the complexity that one dreams of from the ancient vines and meticulous winemaking. VERY well done Morgan and Chris - cheers to you and to your friend Frank’s memory!

The Areio has been one of my very favorite Bedrock wines I’ve had. More energetic and weightless than the typical heritage blends. I’ve picked up a few more at auction for great prices since then.
