Bedrock Spring 2023 Release Save the Date

We are writing to let you know that our Spring 2023 Bedrock Release will open on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. So, now you definitely have plans for Valentine’s Day!

Those who have not yet placed an order will receive the first-come, first-served Waiting List Release on Wednesday, February 22.

This release includes the first wines from 2022— our beloved Ode to Lulu, a delightful iteration of Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc, and the second rendition of Bedrock Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc.

The spring release also includes a number of reds from the lovely, but tiny, 2021 vintage: Heritage Reds from Teldeschi, Papera, Nervo and Oakville Farmhouse, along with the return of Sky Vineyard Zinfandel, which we haven’t made since the fateful 2017 vintage, picked just before the wildfires.

Rounding out the release are the 2021 Gambrels of the Sky Grenache-based red wine, Bien Nacido Syrah, and both Sonoma County and Massa Cabernet Sauvignons.

As we’ve mentioned in the last couple releases, this includes more wines than we usually have for a release, but volumes were so small in 2021 due to drought that we are still making the same number of cases available (actually fewer) as on a normal release.

The spring release wines will ship in March, and our pickup days will take place in March as well. In the meantime, as a reminder we are up and running at our downtown Sonoma tasting room in the Joseph Hooker House. We’re taking appointments online here and are open six days a week (closed Wednesdays). We’d love to see you.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at (707) 343-1478 or orders@bedrockwineco.com.

Best,

This feels like a reprieve for me. Lulu, Sonoma County Cab, and Teldeschi are the only bottles here that are on the must buy list.

Although I am sure the Podcast will change my mind.

Oakville Farmhouse allocations will be tiny, so room in a six pack for several bottles of Teldeschi.

This is generally one of my bigger buys. Never enough LuLu to get through the summer.

21’ will be hard to pass. Teldeschi, Papera, Oakville and Sky Vineyard. Have to see what the allocations are

Probably get a mix of Oakville / Sky / Gambrels

Would be easy for me to stay at a 6er with Oakville Farmhouse, Sky Zin and Papera. But Lulu is a curveball as that’s usually a case+ purchase for me. And the Massa Cab is very intriguing indeed…

Trying to figure out a pared back strategy I looked at CellarTracker. Since 2004 I have written about 100 tasting notes on Cabernet. I currently have over 200 bottles of California Cabernet in the cellar. I think I have enough!

On to the other wines…

I know different vintages and styles of Bedrock have different drinking windows but what’s everyone’s general rule of thumb? From what I’ve read, 6 years or so?

Having 3 releases a year and doing a case for each I’ll have around 200 bottles in 6 years at this rate! Do most people go for just 2 releases?

Oh hell no. All three releases and at least two cases from each. It’s basically an addiction.

Don’t forget about the Under the Wire release either

One case per release would take a ton of restraint. The release podcast will attempt to break any restraint you have.

For me - It’s more like one case minimum of the Heritage wines and one case of the “entry level” wines.

As much as I love Bedrock, I need to stop with the value wines. I have so much wine, I should just grab the first bottle at hand whenever I head to the cellar.

I’ve really got to up my game. Good thing I just doubled the size of my locker…

Yep, im 100% with you there. I had to make the same decision a few years back as i just accumulated way, way too much Bedrock (if that’s possible). I used to buy 3 to 4 of every wine in every release (except for the syrah), and something had to give. Granted they make more wine now than when i was buying at that level.

so excited to see Sky Vineyard on the list!

was there an email for this? I didn’t see it

The Under the Wire release is sometime in May - they have a separate list for it. IIRC, they send an e-mail out to the Bedrock List telling everyone about it.

Edit: My reply was more about the fact that there is a fourth release that should’t be ignored when trying to plan out cellar space for Bedrock releases (since I consider UTW part of them)
