Atlanta

I’ll double check on Bocado Chad. Going to Nava tonight so I’ll update their policy as well.

Apologies for the slight thread drift, but hoping the Atlanta contingent that’s likely to read this thread can help with a restaurant recommendation. I’m normally pretty resourceful, but having trouble at the moment thinking of the right place.

Saturday night to celebrate a friend’s recent new job. Looking for something that fits all the following:
1)Khakis and polo shirt style
2)Takes reservations
3)Has a great wine list (heavy on California)
4)Reasonable BYOB policy
5)In the swatch of geography from Vinings thru Buckhead/Midtown/VaHi/Downtown (probably mainly excluding Decatur, south of downtown and the northeast)

I considered and tossed (mostly due to wine list) Empire State South, Tantra, JCT Kitchen.
Recently went to Miller Union so don’t want to repeat.
Maybe Dogwood, Ecco, Peasant Bistro or La Fourchette but not thrilled with lists there (excluding Ecco, whose list is fairly decent).
Bocado is too much of a scene.

Please recommend the crown jewel that I’m overlooking. Thanks

My research yielded another place that’s missing from our list (I think):

4th and Swift $20 (waived bottle for bottle with purchases from the list)

Best combo of big Cali wine list and great BYOB policy is without a doubt Bones, if you’re into steakhouses.

Thanks, I don’t disagree with that, but doesn’t meet the “khakis and polo shirt” criteria. Not that we probably couldn’t get away with that style there, but not the casual atmosphere I’m seeking, for this particular occasion.

Chad - Local Three meets all your criteria except a wine list heavy on California, but corkage is $-0-.

Bocado is $15 but I would say they are not at all corkage friendly. Was there tonight and the napoleon-esque owner was not happy we brought wines. “we expect you buy a bottle for every one you bring”. If that is the case, then dont charge corkage. And all this after we called ahead to clear gratis corkage after a recent train wreck there. needless to say we will not be returning.

Went to The Palm Restaurant last night for our tenth wedding anniversary. Great meal! Corkage is listed at $25, but after a taste for my waiter, it did not appear on the bill.

H&F aka Holeman & Finch is $15 per. No obvious limit.

Capers (Kennesaw) - $10

This is at their new location. Definitely friendlier corkage than last I was there. And they print the $10 policy on their wine list, which had consumer friendly pricing as well.

In case this has not been convered (I did not see it on the updated list), Iberian Pig $15 (but waived for both bottles on a recent visit).

Also, FAB still $20 as of last week.

Though I was drinking Shochu tonight, found out corkage at Miso Izakaya is $10
Great food, too.

Any corkage info (or just thoughts in general) on Pasta da Pulcinella? It’s been around awhile and I’ve never been; considering going.

The quoted price at Double Zero Napoletana - http://www.doublezeroatl.com/ - was either $15 or $20, can’t remember for certain, but was waived for our four bottles.

Excellent food, nice vibe, friendly but poorly-paced (though otherwise competent) service, very loud.

EDIT: They have added floor-to-ceiling drapes that break up the space and do a good job of dampening the noise.

$10 corkage at No. 246 in Decatur.

Damn good food, too.

$Zero at Gu’s Bistro - but bring your own glasses.

Damn fine food.

What are some your favorite restaurants in downtown ATL? I will be moving to Atlanta in a few months to look for X-Ray Technician Jobs and will probably try every great restaurant and eatery in the area. As you can tell I am a foodie as well.

This thread is a pretty good representation of the best Atlanta has to offer. Read back through the posts and you’ll see some great spots. There are many, so happy hunting!

Downtown is tough for restaurants. Lots of chain tourist joints. One that stands out as the opposite of that is Lunacy Black Market, a fun little place with great prices on small plates with a Mediterranean twist though really eclectic. Get out of downtown for dining unfortunately.

I’ve updated the list, though I’m sure I missed a few as I’m pretty jet lagged today. I added what I saw here plus closings and such. If anyone has any info on some of the new places that have opened it would be appreciated. TIA
