Around the world in 90 days

Great city tour of Central Lima today, including adobe structures built at the same time as the pyramids.

Attractive colonial properties and squares.

And then the wonderful Museo Larco, beautiful outside.

Collections of Inca gold.

And a pottery based culture, some of people.

Some of birds and animals.

And others more activity based.

And so to Cusco. The city centre is historic.

Then Saqsaywaman, an Inca temple above the city.

Wonderful old dry stone work.

We then drove to the Sacred Valley, very dramatic.

And have arrived at our hotel, Posada del Inca Yucay, an old monastery which seems lovely.

A Peruvian malbec, who knew they existed? Perfectly pleasant uncomplicated drinking

Really interesting food culture in Peru now. We enjoyed last night’s dinner, only decent picture is of my trout tartar.

A full day in the Sacred Valley today.

Visiting the Ollantaytambu Fortress

Where there is some incredible stonework

Then on to Moray Agricultural Terraces

And Maras Saltpans

Finishing with another delicious meal, they really know how to cook in Peru

Today was the big one, Ruth’s bucket list trip to Machu Pichu.

Then up the hairpin road to the top.

Our guide was Percy, great guy

This is his trick shot

The place really is all that it seems

Then run for cover and lunch before the rain hit

Back tomorrow to see the lower areas.

Day 2 in Machu Picchu, the lower side.

I say lower, but this is part of the road up.

Pretty much as awesome as day 1

Now in Cusco, it was very noisy overnight, not sure if it always is, or whether the reports of an attempted coup have anything to do with it.

Its a festival here today so lots of things are closed, but the street life is making up for it

Keep ‘em coming and hopefully you are having a great time. Thanx again.

Dinner was Cuy, or guinea-pig. Served crispy. It was delicious.

Ha. Saw one of these in SE Arizona few years ago.

Moved on again today, after a dreadful night’s sleep in Cusco, noisy protests and car horns that slowed a little, but didn’t stop all night.
To Chile, first impressions are that it is the most European style culture we have encountered so far. Roads are good, drivers appear sane.
Our first couple of nights are in Valpariso.
Great setting.

Colourful streets.

Comfortable hotel.

Hopefully batteries will recharge before moving on.

There is a separate thread on Colchagua recommendations if anybody has been this way recently.
