Any "Great" Wines from 1976 Still Drinking Well Today?

Too young to know what was great in '76 (if any), so appreciate the recs. Looking not for a good but great '76 bottle for my birth year, under $400. I don’t discriminate, open to any region around the world. Thx!

Mosel Riesling. One of the “legendary” vintages.

'76 Sauternes is drinking well. A very sweet year, low on botrytis. D’Yquem is out of range, so Climens, Coutet, Rieussec are possibilities.

RIESLINGSSSSSSS
champagne too

I’ve had some good burgs from 76. Nice thing was the vintage is pretty structured so they’re still kicking.

76 Prum Beerenauslese

76 BV GDL if you want a cab

Rioja, Germans, Sauternes, champagne

Be very picky with '76 Germans. Like a modern day '06. Way too much botrytis. I much prefer 1975. More racy, less botrytis.

1976 Leoville Las Cases is not by any means profound but I think it is an excellent bottle of Bordeaux.

A warm year but plenty of 76 Burgs are very much alive and interesting today.

German Riesling (Prum and Egon Muller X 10, Auslese for me please!) [winner.gif]

For Red

California Cab (Heitz Martha’s?)

Rioja (Lopez would be safe)

Rioja. You can even still find them for less than fortune.

76 Cheval Blanc
76 CVNE Imperial and Vina Real Gran Reservas (some floating around in recent Acker auctions)

And I echo the Burg suggestions. It was a hot vintage but they are showing great… 76 Rousseau Beze may be the best wine I had last year. and if it was as hot a vintage as people say it was, all of a sudden I am not so scared about all of the 03s I have stored away.

Taittinger Comte and a, I think, Dr. Loosen Auslese were fantastic last year to celebrate my buddies bday.

Bonneau du Martray CC was very good the year before.
A Momipex Essencia was “ok” but fun to try this year.

Both Krug and Dom are spot on if you can find them.

The nice thing about '76 Burgundy and 1976 in Germany was - they were big vintages, with early acclaim - so there is still quite a bit of it around - provenance is the key though -

I’ve had great bottles of all 3 of the Lopez de Heredia GRs from '76 – Bosconia, Tondonia Red, and Tondonia Blanco.

76 DRC Richebourg (magnum) was still quite young in character when I tried it.

76 Grange is a beauty.

a fair bit beyond the $400 limit, though. as a '76er myself, I’ve always wanted to try this wine, but have never been able to stomach the $1k tariff it carries here in the US.
