I follow a handful of tasters on CT that I really enjoy reading their notes. EGH, EWS, PJHR…I am embarrassed to say that I don’t know these people, and maybe in the past I found out who they were but I’m 51, and by god I forgot. So, just for knowing the real people behind these, I would dig knowing who they are.
Scary how quickly you can connect EWS to a real name on here by looking at tasting notes. PM me if you want your memory refreshed. And thanks for the info as I became a fan of his since it looks like we have a lot of cellar overlap.
Why would anyone ever follow a Jets fan??? They obviously know nothing about football, why would we think they know more about wine?
I don’t use a real names handle for CellarTracker. I also do not post notes there. I have no problem using a real names handle here. Even though I hide the wines in my cellar generally for the public (although obviously not for friends), I like the additional level of privacy from the world for what I have in my cellar. If I could have a different handle for notes than for my cellar, I would have no issue using a real name posting notes, but since I don’t score wines with points, is there any real reason to post notes there.
There’s a difference, though, between a private consumption note and a public tasting note on CT. I jot down a few bits of info on what the wine was like, decant time, how it showed, who I shared it with etc. under private notes on almost every bottle I consume. I post public notes when I have something I think is worth sharing.
CT Private Notes are not as easily searched/ sorted/ organized as Public Notes, so my own private notes are less helpful for me when searching for what I drank and enjoyed (or not).
Fair enough - I’m not sure what I write in the public notes is worth saying, but I share it anyway on the assumption people will treat it as ‘just another data point’.
I look to CT for the notes, not the numerical scores. I would think that at least half of the regular posters here are the same. The scores aren’t very useful at all IMO, just not reliable.
