All things Elyse!

There are a bunch of threads on Elyse, particularly since Bevan took over with the 2018 vintage, so I figured the topic deserved its own thread.

5-2019 Napa Cab
5-2018 Holbrook Cab
1-2019 Oakville Cab
1-2019 Rutherford Cab

Was just there last week for a tasting. The standout, to me, was the ‘19 Rutherford. So good. The ‘19 Howell is also excellent and will benefit from a few years in the cellar. The ‘19 Napa cab is at least as good as the ‘18 version, maybe better, and is more immediately approachable. All are very good values, especially after the club discount.

This is the only “club” I’m enrolled in, as the incentives and customizability make it more than worth it.

23 bottles? Didn’t want the full 2 cases?

I need to place my order still. One of the very strong QPR wines nowadays.

Any intel on source(s) for the ‘19 Howell Mtn cab? This one intrigues me

Pricing on all of these? Cheers.

I asked but our host told us he didn’t know. He did mention the Rutherford is a blend of multiple sites, so I wonder if that’s also the case for the Howell Mtn.

lol, I dunno how I managed that, it was supposed to be an even 24

Too many to list, check here: Elyse Winery - Our Wine Portfolio - then club members get 20% off those prices, plus flat rate shipping.

Agreed and Andrew above, the customizability is the only reason I belong to this club, I long ago swore off all wine “clubs”, but this one is different.

Also a member of this club. I think the Cabernets are a really strong value, especially with the discount and $35 shipping regardless of order size. Agree with others that full customization of the order is the best part.

Made me laugh. Thought you did it out of principle.

Not a member of their club but on their mailing list - I wonder when that offering will go out, been keeping an eye out for it.

Me too, got a friend bugging me for more of their NV Cab.

Since we named our daughter after the winery we figured we better join the club :grinning:

We ended up a mix of zins and napa valley cab plus a few of the viognier. Have not had the wines since they changed winemakers so we wanted a little variety.

We are excited to try them and yes the club pricing is very fair.

I opened the Napa Valley, Yountville, and Oakville this weekend. Curiosity got the better of me. My brief impressions:

‘19 Napa Valley: Ripe style and a bit flabby. One dimensional but well made. Could see this being a crowd pleaser. Pretty good value for $44, especially compared to most grocery store offerings in the same price range, but I prefer the ‘19 Caterwaul Napa Valley for a few bucks more. Same impressions on day two. Don’t see any reason to hold these.

‘19 Yountville: Step up from the NV in complexity and structure, I don’t think I’ve had a Yountville AVA wine before, so can’t comment on whether it’s representative of the region. Gains a bit more complexity on day two. For my palette there are other wines I like better for $76. At that price (and $95 at retail) I would expect a bit more structure that could help the wine age. Not sure how long I’d hold these, but doesn’t seem built for the long haul.

‘19 Oakville: My favorite of the three, and I wine I’d reorder. This has a bit more blue fruit/darker profile than the other two, with a bit of tannic grip and good complexity. It has some of the characteristics I would expect from Oakville fruit. It’s ripe, but doesn’t stick out as much due having a good tannin/acid balance with the ripeness. Improved even more on day two. I think is well worth the $76 off the list.

One thing that may not be obvious from this thread is Elyse has an extensive library of older vintages from when Ray owned it. Roy Piper joined me over a year ago to taste at least 20 vintages with Josh Peeples including the Morisoli bottlings. They are well-priced too.
