I haven’t seen a thead on this topic yet and the offers are now rolling in so wanted to see what people are thinking for 2020 white burgs in particular. It’s shaping up to be a top tier vintage. So what producers/villages are you focusing on?
I’ve been buying/will buy from my usual suspects (Leflaive, Hubert Lamy, Bouchard, PVG) but want to explore a few new producers this year.
Naive question: are you guys still concerned about premox when buying? I’m certainly not trying to rehash discussions that have undoubtedly been done to death here! I love white Burgs (especially Chablis) but I always hesitate to add much to the collection. Is premox simply less of a concern these days?
I’m hopeful that premox had been reduced. (While not a fan of wax capsules, I find myself wondering if Boillot has added the wax as a band-aid to strengthen the cork seal.) I also try to drink my White Burgundies probably a bit younger than most would traditionally. I’m drinking mostly '17/'18 1er Crus right now (and '19 Bourgogne Blancs), although I’m rolling the dice on aging a few 2014 Corton Charlemagnes from Jadot (I think under diam, so hopefully safe) and Bonneau du Martray (probably at greater risk, but a really good wine).
It’s helpful to get your perspective! I’m tempted by a bunch of 2020 whites from the store I usually buy at, but I keep wondering what kind of failure rate I can afford. But as long as the wines aren’t shut down too hard while young, maybe it’s a moot point.
I’ve bought the following:
Henri Boillot
JM Boillot
Bouzereau
Bruno Lorenzon
Buisson Charles
Chavy Chouet
Marc Colin
Guffens Heynen
Chateau de la Maltroye
Thomas Morey
V&S Morey
Morey Coffinet
Roumier
Benoit Moreau
