OMG……what a masterpiece of dry Riesling. For me the best GG from the Nahe region in 2019. And maybe the best „Hermannshöhle“ GG of the last 10-15 years?! Fair to say we have to ask David, but I guess we have to wait 20 years for his expert-opinion. haha
No offense David, I value your Dönnhoff-expertise.
Anyway I am certain this Hermannshöhle would make a bella figura at a tasting of the best white wines in the world. The noble elegance and length or presence on the palate is breathtaking. I could mention several flavors, but this is not important anymore for me these days. In addition it is highly subjective. Beautiful to drink now (!), but best in 10-20 years.
Fair to say sold out, but I assume you will find it on the wine-list of some restaurants. Order it.
I baby killed a bottle of this last January (actually very nearly a year ago to the day) and I’m very much in agreement with you. It’s a killer and special wine. I just need to do the right thing and buy a few bottles to actually cellar!
as your wife loves Dellchen, you have to open the lone bottle in the coming days. It’s really such beautiful right now. No decanting needed, just pop&pour.
And don’t forget, our job is to make the girls happy.
By the time I thought about it, they were gone from general retail. I was only able to get a couple of the new GG Roxheimer Höllenpfad. And make do with some Hermannshöhle Spätlese.
Glad to hear this wine is so awesome. Disappointed Lopa failed to come through for me on this (and all but one of the '19 Donnhoffs I requested), months after confirming they would. Oh well. There’s plenty of wine in the world, I guess.
Thanks for the early taste. Looking forward to it someday. Tried to get a few cases on release, but only managed to cobble together 10 bottles, so I can’t pop them open too quick. But should be amazing in 10 to 20 years!
As I said before, I strongly recommend to open 1 bottle. It is such open and charming right now. No wonder as someone stated above that he drank several bottles already. I truly understand.
I just red the TN regarding 2019 Dellchen GG by Brian and the big difference to me seems that the Hermannshöhle shows clearly more elegance. The noble&aristocratic elegance in the 2019 Hermannshöhle GG is stunning. Also I should mention the balance&harmony which stoods out for me too.
I just read a few minutes ago the impressions from Otto regarding the German vintage 2019. In case of Hermannshöhle, this GG is not awkward or disjointed at the moment.
Thanks Martin,
I don’t have this GG in my cellar but instead have a couple of the 2019 Felsenberg. Have you tasted this, and if so how does it compare? Any ideas on drinking windows?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
