2018 Riesling Kitzinger Wilhelmsberg Trocken (from BD15) - WOWOWOW

Finally dug into the Riesling pack from Tupetz’s BerserkerDay 15 offer and OMG this is perhaps my favorite Riesling ever - completely in my wheelhouse.

It has a bit of everything I look for in Riesling, but not too much of any one characteristic. Petrol and white flowers on the nose, hint of lychee and crushed rocks (great start), palate has the slightest oily weight and feel to it, white peach and pineapple on the palate, with a touch more petrol, perfect sweetness level and an herbal white fruit finish. Spot On. Already reached out to @LisaT to get more.

Keep on Trocken’!!

Sounds phenomenal. Love me sum petrol. Great note, by the way.

Always a bit disappointed when I crack open a (relatively) older bottle and find it absent.

Thanks for the note. 2018 was a very hot and ripe vintage. I just ordered some and this producers Silvaner.

Interesting - one would assume this wine wouldn’t show as well as it did, therefore? Perhaps the ‘oily’ character on the wine was from the ripeness? Loved it, more than most Rieslings I’ve had as of late

It is from Franken an area that is not as well known for Riesling. They are more well known for Silvaner. I am guessing Riesling did better in a vintage like 2018 than a region that is typically hotter than Franken, like say the Pfalz.

I do like the Rieslings from Franken very much. Particularly from Paul Weltner.

I ordered the Riesling and Silvaner after your post.

Pressure is on! Now I’m nervous!

Honestly it is really hard to find a bad wine from Germany. Yes some are better than others but the quality level is just so high across the full range of options.

Kabinett, Trocken, and GG are my wheelhouse - can’t get into Spatlese

While my experience is limited compared to many here, I couldn’t agree more!
