2012 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne

Passed through terminal 2E today and only saw the 2011, €144.

Mag of 2012 Dom @ €460 was pretty tempting

Strange, I was in 2E also and it was the 2012, at least it was a week ago.

Bottle List @ $240

I saw an offer today out of the UK this morning for 675 GBP/6-pack, limit 1 per customer. That equates to about $126/btl. I expect there will be a 2nd tranche offer soon, my guess is around 875 GBP.

Not sure which shop you are talking about but if it’s what I think it is then that offer is only for private long standing clients.

And does that surprise you that I might be a long standing client? I am not as young as I once was. :grinning:

Btw, just saw another offer at 825 GBP ($154/btl) from a different shop.

I just got an offer at the same price. 15 cases available, no limit. It seems like it might not be a problem to get good quantities at first tranche pricing.

I just got an offer for $150.

Yeah I bought at that price but I suspect from a different merchant.

I was woefully incorrect. I ordered 8 cases from offers today and received 1 case and another 1 case offer at 50% premium, which I passed. It’s more of the usual as I should have expected.

Looks like $229 at Woodland Hills

A bit high for me.

I have seen pricing as low as $125 (UK) and as high as $289 (US). Current pricing is around $170 in the UK and $229 - $240 in the US per WS.

I decided to make a leap of faith, crossed my fingers that I’ll be able to drink it, and ordered a 6 pack from the UK.

I figure that if I want to drink it in the future I’ll need to buy it now.

I don’t have much experience with mass produced luxury champagnes; for my bubbly urges I go with such NVs as Chartogne Taillet St. Anne, Legras, etc. I wonder though if these champagnes (DP, CdC, etc) are so scarce (aren’t these produced in huge quantities?) that they couldn’t be backfilled later if so desired. Is this about expectations of ever-rising prices? But how high can they really go?

They don’t get any easier to find later. They get drunk. It’s not like Bordeaux.

There’s usually a pretty wide early window to acquire the larger production champagnes like Taittinger - a year or more. Unless there is some kind of dramatic explosion of interest like we saw with the 2008 vintage. Will that happen this year? No clue, honestly.

But - after that early window these mass produced luxury champagnes become relatively less available and prices tend to go up fairly steadily. But only ‘relatively’ less available - these are still around if you want to pay the rates. If you look at the big retailers and auction houses, many back vintages of Taittinger, Dom, Cristal, Krug etc. are available, often in good volume. But the prices will definitely jump. The smaller producers do truly become scarce.
