2003 Krug???

Of the few '03’s I’ve had, it was the best of the '03’s, for sure, but still not what I’d say is a ‘good’ vintage, so if I’m to spend vintage money on Krug, I’m not going '03, particularly when the MV with '03 base is SOOOOO much better IMHO. I enjoyed '03 Dom, which is pretty heavy on the sulphur qualities, and Krug '03 is good, just not as good as the cheaper MV, to me.

At Krug I tasted the 2000 and 2003 side-by-side. We preferred the 2000 but it’s splitting hairs. Either should be just fine in the cellar. I’m buying MV.

To me, the MV truly is the best wine they make, though I have immensely enjoyed the Clos du Mesnil '98 and Collection '89 I’ve enjoyed at BerserkerFest Telluride…but since I can’t afford either, it’s an easy choice! The vintage bottlings are all fantastic, but I just like the MV better most of the time.

Has anyone had the N.V. Krug Private Cuvée from the 60’s …?

Todd,

I don’t think Krug will argue with you about the Grande Cuvee being the best. They have always taken the stance that all of the wines are equal in quality, but different in expression, and price based on supply/demand/production. They love it when the Grande Cuvee comes out on top of the higher priced Krugs.

Barry,

I’ve had the NV Private Cuvee that was around until the latter part of the 70s and it is a good wine. I didn’t have it on release (first tried it in the early 2000s from a bottle sold in the mid-1960s). The NV Private Cuvee is a good wine, but I don’t hold it in any higher regard than the Grande Cuvee. It is just older and to some the different name adds mystique which translates into “liking it more”. I know others may have a different opinion, but with age, I don’t think there is any real consistent difference.

Many Thanks Brad ! Will try one soon … I hope it’s not too old ?
