001 Vintners Innaugural Release - Graeme MacDonald Winemaker

With Jack and Graeme at the helm I will be a buyer. I trust they will only put out wine that passes the test. Not a huge leap to guess where the to-kalon fruit comes from which also makes it more interesting.

Am I right that it sounds like some of the 2020 Macdonald fruit went to Macdonald, some went to Salty Goats and some to 001?

I didn’t order the 2019, but got this offer today as well. I’m surprised they didn’t address possible smoke taint head on.

That’s what it sounds like to me too. I quickly searched some old threads and in one Roy mentioned that SG wasn’t the only that got the '20 fruit

I guess that theory, if true, cuts both ways.

On one hand, it’s the sources that normally go into MacDonald.

On the other hand, Graeme didn’t want to put that wine under MacDonald’s label that vintage.

Hmm.

Knowing that you could still sign on now despite not ordering the inaugural time for the 2019, I wonder if you could skip 2020 and still be able to buy 2021 and beyond.

Isn’t the email today, just the Save the Date and not an Offer one?

Definitely makes one think.

However, I just recently tried a ā€˜20 Macdonald and it was surprisingly structured. Almost austere. But with super concentrated fruit. Obviously no inside info on different sections of the vineyard, but I can see how they might want some blending partners as the addition of some softer fruit and texture may make a killler blend. Just conjecture on my part.

I was surprised to see this as well. Even with the allure of McD fruit in there, I’m feeling pretty trigger shy about this vintage at this price point. Hopefully since I bought the 2019 I’ll still be offered the 21.

Yes

Correct. Kongsgaard also got some of their 20’ fruit.

It is my understanding that they didn’t know how successful they would be selling 2020 macdonald and we’re looking to spread some of that risk around as they have a very long-term view. Had they known it would’ve been as in demand as it was they likely would’ve kept more. Of course hindsight is 20/20.

Some of the fruit went to kongsgaard also

I can’t speak to this vintage , but I just can’t imagine Graeme making a wine that he doesn’t stand behind. Period.

I bought the 2019, but haven’t received yet due to Texas heat, so didn’t buy 2020. I’ll have to wait and see about 2021.

Got a Save the Date email today for the spring release of the 2021 vintage release - February 4, 2025. I’ve only tried the '20 vintage, but I thought it was still very good in a horrible year. I can only imagine how outstanding the 2021 vintage will be given the much better season.

I purchased ā€˜19, did not purchase ā€˜20 and got a save the date. There was mention of guaranteed allocations for those that purchased ā€˜20, so not sure what my offer will look like, but only wanting a 3pk, so thats all I need.

I didn’t take detailed notes, but I tasted the wines over lunch with Jack last month and they, including the 2020, were exceptional. I’m in for at least 3 and am happy to be supporting Jack (my first time meeting him).

2019 was a pretty stellar bottle of cab, and just on the strength of that bottle, I’m in… at least until 2023

I had a chance to try 19-22. I will say these are very special wines indeed. Many wines nowadays are good or excellent but this is above that. Reflects both the vintage character of each respective bottling and also the vineyard. I’m very happy to be on the list.
