Monkish Brewing Co. Oculars, TIPA, 10.3% ABV. Hopped at 10 lbs per barrel with Galaxy, Citra, Mosaic and Centennial hops. At 10lbs per barrel this is the hoppiest beer Henry has ever brewed at Monkish. It's an amazing assault of aromatics and flavors. Big and creamy with tons of sweet tropical, citrus and berry notes. It somehow stays bitter and dry to the finish which is what they do better than anyone. My mouth is watering thinking of where this will be in 10-14 days out. Mind blowing on day one. This was one of two beers released today via their curbside on-line platform.

Highly Recommended,

Cheers,

Bud

903 Brewers in Sherman, TX.

This is their Hurricane Slushy Smoothie Style Gose Ale. My least favorite out of all their slushies, but still decent.

Really heavy on the passionfruit, as this is TART!

It's actually pretty easy when they are made to drink like a 7.2 % IPA like this one. Green Cheek's TIPA's are really scary, how these guys are doing it blows me away. There's hot boozy messes and then there are gems like these. I'll never hesitate to buy a Green Cheek or Monkish TIPA, so delicious and fun !!

Cheers,

Bud

Local beer shop just posted some photos of new beer being stocked and I wanted to check with the SoCal contingent on whether they know if these were released lately by Beachwood:

1. Greenshift Double IPA
2. Citraholic
3. LBC IPA

thanks all!

Check the gram. It appears that Greenshift was released within the last couple of weeks.

Yeah, it's the only way that I can keep track of the heavy hitters, Resident Culture and Heist, in Charlotte.

It's been brutally hot and humid in NYC so I've been enjoying these lower-alcohol IPAs:

Peak Organic Summer Session IPA
Singlecut Hop Sounds

I dont expect them to get much love on this forum, but for anyone else out there looking for something really refreshing in this heat, these have been good to me.

Singlecut's pretty good. Grimm is probably my favorite IPAs in the NYC area.

Fieldwork Brewing. King Citra. DIPA. 8.7% ABV. Hopped entirely with Citra hops. Ya'll know my love for Pulp,or DDH Pulp. Take those two world class IPAs and amp everything up ten fold and you have King Citra. It's a smorgasbord of everything orange, tangerine, mandarine, navel and those little cuties too. The body is full and beautifully balanced. The finish is a long dry kiss of bittersweet citrus. An amazing batch. If your a Pulp fan do what you have to to get a taste of this one. Paging Will.

Highly Recommended,

Cheers,

Bud

Been drinking a lot of the Off Color Brewing beers lately. Had Beer For Tacos and Beer For Golf in the past couple weeks, just tried Beer For Brunch which is probably my favorite of the trio. A berliner weisse with orange and chardonnay grape juice adjuncts. Perfect for sitting on the porch during hot summer days.

Brewery X
Out of Anaheim
Never tried them before this weekend.
Thought both their NEIPA and their Mosaic W. Coast IPA were very good. Will buy again.

Green Cheek Beer Co. Stars For Days, Triple Dry Hopped DIPA.9.1% ABV. TDH'd with Nelson Sauvin and Citra hops. Another world class DIPA from Evan Price and the Green Cheek team. Gobs ands gobs of tangerine, nectarine, guava and passion fruit with lychee and white wine notes. The body is incredibly soft and pillowy. This finishes long and dry with a nice bittersweet hit at the back end. Zero booze factor, this is dangerously easy to drink. Available at both Green Cheek locations.

Surprise gift from Mark Ye! Tree House DIPA “Saturated - brewed with Orange Blossom Honey, golden strum, homemade mango simple syrup and a blend of fruit forward American hops.”

Definitely a fun DIPA on a 80 degree day.

Good to hear. They did a few last year that were slightly disappointing relative to each brewer's beers. Glad they fixed that.

On a diet, so have cut back tremendously on beer.

Of course, that seemed like the perfect time for a friend to send a beer care package from the east coast.

I have a hard time getting excited about kolsch style beers - they’re crisp and wonderful on a hot day, but that’s more of a “scratch the itch” vs a great beer tasting experience. The Vitamin Sea collab DIPA was more in my sweet spot and enjoyable with sardines and keto cheese biscuits. Of course, the single DIPA maxed my carb intake for the day :0 Reminded me a bit of the old Hair of the Dog Blue Dot, before it turned into a malt disaster.

Decided to take a break from wine today and dig into the 40 cans of Tree House currently in my fridge.

Juice Machine American Double IPA - 8.2%, Canned 8/05

Ridiculously good. Gets that soft, plush feeling that Tree House really has nailed down. Super juicy with a mild grassy, bitter note balancing it out. Not a hard edge in sight. Delightful. I wish it had a touch more carbonation, but otherwise this is almost perfect.

This afternoon, a friend shared a can of Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale. If you haven't made the full conversion to Sours, this is a great entry level intro. Complex, moderately rich, tasty, a hint of sweetness with a mild yet refreshing acidic tang. 5.5% abv. Product of Belgium. Need to look for more of this.

Recently had a Timmerman's Oude Gueuze. $7.50 for a 375mL at Total Wine. Not as highly-regarded as the more usual suspects, but I'll be damned if this wasn't excellent. It was *definitely* better than some of the 3F Oude Guezes I've had since 3F switched to using only their own lambics. I'll be buying more. :)

I don't visit here often but just wanted to stop in to report that I recently had a great visit with my BFF and Beer God, Mr. Bud Rhoades and he poured me some delicious beers while I was there. In particular, I enjoyed a beer that I can't remember the name of, but it was a 'Green Cheek' I think. He called it a 'smoothie' and it was infused with vanilla and fresh coconut. I had never experienced anything like it. Wow. It was complex, aromatic, and the flavors were off the charts. Unfortunately, he informed me that it was a limited beer that I would never be able to find in my local Washington stores. Bummer. Bud will have to fill you in with the details on what exactly his delicious beverage was. Cheers!

Hahahaha ! Not only did we drink some amazing beers we did some SERIOUS damage on some amazing wines. That particular beer I poured for us was indeed a Green Cheek beer, it was Cocohut Vanilla Plus. It's a milk shake DIPA, brewed with freshly toasted coconut and a shit ton of Madagascar vanilla then dry hopped with Citra. Stoked you enjoyed it buddy, Carolyn and I loved having the Butner family at our beach shack, the time went way to fast but as usual, you and I made the most of every precious moment. Oh, BTW, happy anniversary, 20 years ! Love you both ! AND..... Evan will brew that again and I will be sending you a few four packs for you to enjoy with the PNW crew !

Green Cheek Beer Co. DDH The Other Brian. DIPA. 8.5% ABV Hopped entirely with Citra hops.

Second release of the year for DDH TOB. I absolutely loved the 1st batch and was very surprised to see it re-appear again today along side maybe my favorite TIPA of 2020 in Swim Test. Evan coaxes so many layers of flavors and aromatics from this single hopped Citra beer. There is gobs of sweet mango, tangerine and pineapple on a super soft creamy body. Zero detection of the 8.5%. This finishes long dry and bittersweet. Available from both locations for curbside pick up. This DIPA is as good if not better than most I've had so far in 2020. Insanely delicious.

Highly Recommended,

Cheers,

Bud

Ft George 3 Way - think I got an older can date, as this wasn’t as bright / fruity / green as the first batch.

Tom, stoked you took advantage of the shipping option, your going to love these new releases, drinking the new Swim Test right now, I dare anyone to tell me that this beer is 10.2% ABV, so dangerous but so balanced and delicious, it really is one of the best TIPA's being brewed anywhere IMHO, but it's Nelson and Citra, how can that combo in Evans capable hands not be etherial ?

Cheers,

Bud

Thank you Bud for the insight on Green Cheek! Can't wait to try these based on your feedback. Still trying to get some Monkish, but have had some recent luck with ordering Green Cheek, though these are my first Hazy's. Really enjoyed "Australian for Pale Ale," which is a real crowd pleaser.

Bud

Monkish Brewing Co. Realness. DDH DIPA. 8.3% ABV. Hopped with Galaxy and Amarillo hops. Released 8/28/20

One of Henry's original 5 IPA's he dropped on the craft world in 2016 makes it 2020 debut in a completey redesigned can, I say it's Dodger colors because Monkish is a Dodger house ! I'll never forget the impression this beer made on me almost 5 years ago, how can a "beer" smell and taste like this ? The OG Monkish fruit bomb, the marriage of Galaxy and Amarillo is a hop match made in heaven, you get massive charges of pineapple, mango, papaya and then it turns the corner and becomes a west coast DIPA with grapefruit, orange zest and bitter hoppy green matter that is delivered on a semi soft perfectly carbonated body that has a finish that is bone dry and long with a bittersweet kiss of citrus at the back end. Part of an early surprise Friday morning on-line release that also featured a west coast IPA that I unfortunately missed out on, 200 cases total. This is the epitome of west coast hazy.

Highly Recommended,

Cheers,

Bud

Paid a visit to Narrow Gauge today to grab my 4-pack of Peanut Butter & Stout won via lottery. Stayed to have a DDH Cloud City and try a couple of the new flavor Meersalz (Blood Orange and Black Currant). The whole Meersalz line-up at Narrow Gauge is excellent, but blood orange may be my new favorite for its balance.
