mitch - i take it you didnt order
A month or two back, Florida Jim Cowan tasted through three or four SQN's and expressed my sentiments.
I've tasted about ten of them.
I was right there when Rudy drove in at the exact moment a half-barrel of HdR SQN Grenache came up at auction to scoop it up irrespective of price with his paddle lifted just once and held overhead until the deed was done

Box No. 51 of 623 arrived safely today. The packaging was very good and well cushioned for the trip. Rose and white arrived in separate box with recycled materials that protected them well also

Box 042 here. I was second wave so I wasn't able to buy the white and Rosé, unfortunately.

Did they send out an email letting you know? Nothing here in Colorado and I checked the website to see if there was any info. It showed 3/16/2020 on the invoice, I don't remember if I chose that date to ship or if it shipped.

Mine arrived in Dallas. Haven’t gone over to storage to take a look. Might be a few weeks before that can happen with everything that’s going on.

so what is at the top of everyone's letter? mine reads winner winner, chicken dinner!

not sure if this means i got the special box. but the outside does look more than fairly snazzy, regardless.

I'm making a joke that no one has tasted it, but given it's grape wine there should be at least a hint of grape flavor.

You folks already took the risk, opened your wallets and bought unknown wines, but no one is ready to take one for the team and kill a puppy?
Is this a Covid19 effect, I mean I can understand if you are symptomatic and have lost your senses of smell and taste, but nobody is healthy, ready and willing? Logic dictates opening one before you potentially perish, right?
Oh my, could the packaging be that stunningly beautiful, you are all bedazzled and frozen?
Hard to faethom this situation, it has been hours and even days.

Sorry, just bored, no ox in it, just egging on a pobega for the curious.

There is one tasting note on Cellar Tracker for the grenache. One of the taste descriptors is "baseball dirt". Umm...?

i get the curiosity aspect, wholly new wine. but yea I'm going to likely wait till have the grenache till around thanksgiving and the syrah over the winter.
everyone opens on their timeline but i don't think opening this early can yield a accurate assessment.

Why would these be different than any other just released wines?? There are many wines that are 'pobegad' as soon as they are received - but none of these? Doesn't seem to make sense - unless everyone is holding on to these in hopes of reselling them? Curious for more takes on this.

your guess is as good as mine regarding resale. i just don't think bigger central coast and adjunct rhone wines 'pobega' well. again, just my opinion.

I have tons of wine that is ready to drink and can only drink so much. My wine consumption is likely 2X what it was pre-lockdown. These arent close to my radar for opening. No rush. So much wine so little time

About 10 of my friends went to the tasting at the Ojai Valley Inn a while back. They are huge fans of Saxum and SQN and own a ton of each. They enjoyed the white but were confused with the reds. None of them liked the reds and that was the verdict of all 10 people. Now, I wouldn't say they are the most experienced tasters so that's why I am interested in other's opinions here on Berserkers.

your guess is as good as mine regarding resale. i just don't think bigger central coast and adjunct rhone wines 'pobega' well. again, just my opinion.
I understand your thoughts on this - but not sure that is universal. How many people have already opened the SQN wines they just purchases - or 2017 or 2018 Napa Cabs that will probably shine brightest down the line?

Again, just finding it curious - that's all.

I’m interested to read people’s notes. I had a crew of friends do a local tasting and....well...it wasn’t great....
oh really? good, but not up to the hype or just bad...?
About 10 of my friends went to the tasting at the Ojai Valley Inn a while back. They are huge fans of Saxum and SQN and own a ton of each. They enjoyed the white but were confused with the reds. None of them liked the reds and that was the verdict of all 10 people. Now, I wouldn't say they are the most experienced tasters so that's why I am interested in other's opinions here on Berserkers.
I’m not at all dismissing your experience, and I would have popped one if I had been able to order quick enough. I’m finding it hard to imagine Manfred wouldnt challenge his son to not release a wine that wasn’t at least competitive in its price range?

What didn’t they like?
