Zeitgeist Cellars

Hello everyone and I was wondering why Zeitgeist Cellars seems to have so little chatter and talk on here and Cellar Tracker?

Their wines receive very high scores, are sourced from very high quality vineyards such as Sleeping Lady and Oakville Station, are made from a talented and respected winemaker in Jennifer Williams (Arrow & Branch), and their Napa Valley bottling is one of the best values still under $100.

I’m also interested if any of you have tasting experience with their wines as well.

Sincerely,

Daniel Walsh

Hi - chiming in as a friend and a fan of these wines, and of Mark and Jen. They are indeed terrific wines that supremely overdeliver, made by super talented and passionate winemakers. Worth seeking out for sure. Cheers! :grapes: :+1:t3:

I tasted the 06 at Beherns and liked it. I still haven’t tried the bottle I bought. I doubt this helped.

Now there is some irony for you. Why isn’t Zeitgeist the “in” thing right now?

I’ve been drinking (and been a fan of) Zeitgeist Cellars since the 2007 vintage (which may be their inaugural vintage). A little history that Erin alludes to in her response — the Zeitgeist wines are made by both Jenn and her winemaker husband Mark Porembski, it’s their personal label. Mark cut his winemaking teeth with Les Behrens (who actually gave Mark the idea of using Zeitgeist as a wine label name) and also is the winemaker for Anomaly Vineyards, Unwritten Wines, and Band Of Vintners. It’s been exciting to see the label grow from just a single Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon bottling to a range of single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, an amazing Cabernet Franc, and two fantastic whites — one of California’s best Chenin Blancs and a terrific Trousseau Gris. Their 2018 Oakville Station Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the 10 best Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted in the last two years. IMO, all of their wines overdeliver at their price points, notwithstanding the inevitable upwards price creep over the last 14 years. I have personally tasted twice with Mark, and it is a great experience. You’re missing out if you’re not on Zeitgeist’s e-mailing list.

Never heard of them until now. Can anyone comment on winemaking style?

Big but balanced. Terroir-driven. Nice complexity.

I really enjoyed our visit a couple years ago. Wines are excellent. Been a bit since I opened a bottle, they were big but also open. I’m a fan of Sleeping Lady Cab Franc he makes. I think it gets better with age but fairly open on release.
