Diving into the Wine List at the French Laundry - What Would I Order?!? by Troy’s Tasting Room
Pretty interesting video - I liked his ‘by the glass’ choices (but not the prices, oof!)
Not sure I’d choose Selosse, even though obviously a great vintage, but only because I’m not a huge fan.
Might have to watch his video on Bern’s as well!
(also, it’s super cool to watch it embedded within the forum like that, and comment while watching)
Agree, worth a watch. I’m sure his choices will generate some debate.
Thanks for posting.
Oh cool, I haven’t actually seen it yet. Figured, good or bad, it might generate some conversation ![]()
Here’s the wine list, if anyone’s interested in playing along:
Its fun but not very informative. He just kind of quips about his selections but doesn’t really offer much in the way of comparisons and pairings. IOW, it’s not very instructive unless you know everything he already knows.
Charlie Fu is on his way to drink that 89 Leroy CC! Seems a deal?
FAIL. Double secret probation.
Todd’s a slut for Krug.
Nah, not really Krug - prefer Dom over Krug, in general, but that Ulysse Collin Les Roises 60mo 2015 was about the best Champagne I can remember having in recent memory, and recent memory is short because I’m getting old
Yikes, that was too tedious for me to get through lol
I skipped the video and checked out the wine list online. It made my nose bleed! Interesting the‘15/‘16 La Tache looks to be close to market but most of the Bordeaux is 4x. I guess the retail market has already raised the price of La Tache to a multiple of their cost so no need to raise it more. I would probably grab a bottle of Philipponnat Royale Reserve for $225 and then BYO a red and pay the $200 corkage. I would most likely dine somewhere else though.
My heart sunk watching Meadowood burn down. We ate so well and were able to find 3 wines for about $300 total
Not exactly what I would pick, but a decent use of the list.

Next time you are in Dallas, I need to introduce you to Suenen. That is my new champagne obsession.

I’ll be there plenty, since my daughter goes to TCU!
Next planned one is Nov 3-6 - maybe I can extend it a bit so we can do a quick offline with my other Champagne buddy @K_John_Joseph

Awesome. That is right during 10-Q season, but depending on the date (the later the better), that could work. The 2015s just got here and I have not tried any yet. Will hold off.
He did pretty well with the $500 budget. I would have gone a different way after the Egly-Ouriet BTG, but my preference usually leans French.
My 3 for under $500:
Margaine MV
Domaine Montbourgeau, Chardonnay, “Cuvée Spéciale,” l’Etoile -OR-Domaine du Pélican, Savagnin, “Ouille”
Domaine Trévallon, IGP Alpilles
Interestingly, his suggestions are no longer on the list, but it could also be coincidence
Margaine MV
Absolutely I’d go Margaine over Egly-Ouriet as well - good call
This guy is hilarious! He takes not so subtle digs at somms.
