Your top five German wine producers

Don’t forget the outstanding Rieslaners from HGS, which account for a majority of my meager remaining selection of Müller-Catoirs.

Nice to see what others have! For me it’s:

  1. Schloss Lieser
  2. JJ Prüm
  3. Keller
  4. Meyer Näkel
  5. Egon Müller

Because of this thread, got a few bottles being delivered of JJ Prüm.

I hope you enjoy it Jeff! [cheers.gif] [cheers.gif]

But if you don’t I’m sure someone on here would be happy to help you find a new home for it

Thank you. Its different than what we normally drink, but I have an open mind and enjoyed a bottle I grabbed locally yesterday.

Coincidentally, while looking up some of these wineries I learned that I drove right through the Mosel region transiting between Luxembourg and Mainz for business a few years ago. Would have been nice to setup tastings had I been aware of my surroundings back then.

Great list of wineries. I have quite a bit of Sybille Kuntz left with some age. Recently opened a 2001 Lieser Niederberg-Helden TBA that was spectacular. One of my favorite dry riesling producers.
The rest JJ Pruem, Dr Loosen, Maximin Gruenhaus, Fritz Haag, Zillikin, Wittmann. In descending order.

Kuntz is good but very hard to find.

Joh. Jos. Prüm
Ziereisen
Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben

Julian Haart
Keller

Egon Muller
Robert Weil
Fritz Haag
Mazimin Grunhaus
Karthauserhofberg

Von Buhl
Maximin Grunhaus
JJ Prum
Monchhof
Fritz Haag

I’m pretty top heavy

JJ Prüm 33.0%
Max Ferd Richter 15.6%
Peter Lauer 12.8%
Schäfer-Fröhlich 10.1%
Gunderloch 4.6%

Next 5 Zilliken, Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler, Markus Molitor, Stein, Vollenweider all with less than 6 bottles each.

Due to not buying as much wine over the last few years my numbers today are different than they were 5 years ago.

JJ Prum leads by a wide margin
Von Kesselstaat
Grunhauser
Dr. Wagner
Bollig-Lehnert

Von Winning
Robert Weil
Emrich Schonleber
Okonomierat Rebholz
Gut Hermannsberg

Looks like I’ve rebalanced:

  1. Julian Haart
  2. Donnhoff
  3. Keller
  4. Falkenstein
  5. Clemens-Busch

My absolute favorites, as opposed to what I have in stock right now:

Keller
Egon Müller
Leitz
Dönnhoff
von Winning

and yet, Keller is on several people’s lists.

Muller and Keller both happen to be on mine, but its because my entire collection of German wine is only 8 bottles deep and those make up 4 of the 8 lol. (the other 4 are Donnhoff)

Well, Keller offers a bunch of great wines at affordable prices so I’m not sure the comparison with Egon pricing makes a whole lot of sense. What would be Egon’s equivalent of the von der fels or RR?
