Your latest supermarket clearance finds

Sure, it’s vino non grata on WB but $5 for the 2022 will lure me into dealing with a cashier. (Self checkout is not allowed for alcohol and other items in my region)

Best find was probably 2017 Raveneau Clos for $495 in late 2020

Also during the pandemic at a different store: 6x 2018 Gonon for $77 each

Oh wow, I didn’t see that at Bel Air today. I don’t need wine glasses but that’s a good deal.

My best was 2013 Soldera for $400 at Kroger during COVID.

That had to be a mistake…why would the retailer take such a loss on that wine?

Oh, the agony of the young. My best find was a bin end at The Art of Wine in Pleasantville, NY, in about 1976 or 1977. Le Montrachet. Last bottle. $6.

2010 Termanthia for $95/btl. Grabbed the three sitting in the cooler.

Wow, that’s insane!! Deal of the year for sure - congrats!

Agree! How many vintages? Did you clean them out?

Not a supermarket find exactly, but I found a case of 2016 Dei Vino Nobile di Montepulciano for $7 a bottle at a corner convenience store.

I found a bottle of 2018 Bouchard Beaune du Chateau 1er Blanc in Maryland last month for $19.99. I ended up drinking it in my hotel room.

2014 and 2017. And cleaned out indeed. They had some other very good deals that I took advantage of as well, but nothing approaching those…

If you see the “Clearance Last Chance!” sticker at the local Raley’s store, you still get an additional 30% off with 6 or more bottles. Also picked up 2022 Dog Point NZ SB for $12, and 2021 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir $12.

Added to my shopping list . I’ll see if my Bel Air has these.

Does vinegar keep that long when opened though? I’ve always bought smaller bottles as a result.

You can’t keep an opened bottle of vinegar too long. After several days it starts turning into wine.

found one bottle of HBL 2019 in a Carrefour the other month and grabbed it at sub 30€, but they only had a single bottle, guess I would have grabbed a case if they had it

Huh where?

I’ve seen the Riedel WineWings level of stemware at Raleys/BelAir/NobHill for $22.50 per single boxed unit. Typically these markdowns are in the clearance rack, or homewares section, rather than the actual wine area. I don’t have any of the ‘wavy’ style of stems and I’m not sure of the merits, but I purchased one to try.

There were nebbiollo, sauv blanc, and cabernet in stock; I picked up one of the first.

All you lucky people who live in states where you can buy wine in a grocery store. Sigh. In NYS, supermarkets can only sell de-alcoholized wine and beer. Seriously.
