I’ve had a couple that have been more pink/light red and have been really pleasant.
Lucien Albrecht Cremant d’Alsace Brut Rosé. 100% Pinot Noir and it shows. Lovely wine. Around $20.
+1
Parigot et Richard Cremant de Bourgogne, at around $20, beats most NV Champagnes at twice the price.
Here’s another vote for the N.V. Domaine Tissot as well as N.V. Domaine Brazilier Coteaux du Vendomois Brut Methode Traditionnelle which is very inexpensive. Those are my two favorite cheapies. I would love to try the Parigot and will pick up a bottle the next time I’m in L.A.
Brad Ballinger:From Bugundy, Loius Boillot (under $15, and better than most cava I’ve had).
I don’t understand why all fans of bubbly haven’t discovered Cremant de Bourgogne - the top producers compare quite favorably with lesser Champagnes - they are rarely over $20 and the consistency is amazing - I just had a zip code Cremant de Bourgogne from Trader Joes that sold for $11 that was just lovely -
And I think they blow away anything from the new world…
I’ve tried these when I come across them but haven’t been favorably impressed. Very generally, they’ve seemed too soft, lacking the keen acidity that helps to distinguish a good sparkler, to my mind.
Otoh, I recently ordered a few bottles of Piuze’s cremant, which I’m eager to try, because of his location (Chablis) and the reputation of his whites. I remember reading Stephenson once writing that Chablis has the potential to make great sparkling wines.
Joe Webb:I prefer the Roederer Brut ($20) but splurge on the rose ($25) if they have it in stock.
This. The current Roederer Brut Anderson Valley is really good - better than other releases
Roederer Brut Anderson Valley is always a safe bet, not boring, and delicious.
Every time I’m again surprised how much I dig this wine!
And unlike many of the other worthy wine listed, this one is very easy to find (in the US - no idea if it is exported significantly?)
Another not yet mentioned would be Graham Beck Brut from South Africa. I wish we could still get Lindauer from New Zealand.
Doug Schulman:Tissot Indigene from the Jura. It’s too good for its $23-$30 price tag. It does have a little bit of a funky, slightly cidery note that some people don’t like…
I’m one of those who doesn’t “appreciate” this wine. I’ve given it 3-4 tries, but then just gave up. For me, it’s like bad grower Champagne. And there is bad grower Champagne.
What about their regular bottling? I also think that’s a tremendous value, and it’s “cleaner”.
teddemop: S. Reynolds:I like Gruet for inexpensive U.S. sparkling wine.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this recently! Only tried the Brut but hopefully the Blanc de noirs and Rose soon.
In general prefer Old World to New Mexico however (or even old Mexico, although I have yet to find a sparkler from there).
Skip the Sparkling Gamay (yeah, I tried some recently)Disagree on the sparkling Gamay!
Both the sparkling Domaine de Nugues and the Patrick Bottex Bugey Cerdon are off the charts delicious, imo. Are they incredible values at $20? Maybe not, but I’d drink either one all summer long.
Totally agree - the Bugey Cerdon is as delicious as it gets - and the perfect partner for Charcuterie -
