Your Annual Burgundy Producer

I buy Foillard’s Morgons and Fluerie annually. I’m looking for a list of “I never miss this Domaine’s wines” for the Macon, Burgundy, Chablis. Looking for excellence not extravagance.

Confused by the question. Do you want people to just list their favorite Burgundies? That has been done many times over and will be of little to no use to you, as their favorites are not necessarily going to be your favorites.

Or do you cite Foillard as a stylistic guide? Presumably if you want something in that mold, you could go with whatever natural-leaning Burgundy comes across your radar and fits your desired price.

Not looking for favorite Burgundies per se. Looking for what producers you purchase year in and year out. Not individual hilight bottles or “so and so can be great.” I mean what do you personally shell out money for annually and will not miss a release of. I “think” Robert-Denogent might come up, for example, they are on my radar, but I don’t know. It would be interesting to see if the same Domaine’s pop up on the list or if there is some agreement as to who is showing great skill year in and year out.

Sounds like how I would define “favorite”.

And of course there is agreement as to who is showing great skill. The universe of ‘top’ Burgundy producers is not exactly a secret. There’s also great debate within that set based on personal preferences, which is already raging in many other threads on this board!

Never heard of the 3 producers you mentioned, so my list is probably going to have little value to you.

Your list would have great value to me. My list is a “maybe” on one producer.

I never buy Burgundy year in year out

Also, I found it a bit odd how Burgundy was distinct from Mâcon and Chablis. To my understanding, Mâcon and Chablis are still part of Burgundy.

Herman for the win on his contribution, tho.

Never heard of Foillard and Foillard of the famous Gang of Four band?

Louis Michel for Chablis. I grab the regional Chablis and decide from there if I’m going to spend on the more expensive ones this year or keep it modest.

Ok, I’ll play. It’s a weird question and I doubt my list will be helpful to you, but here are some producers I buy every year, mostly because I either see them as good value (Foillard), they are my favorite producers, or I get an allocation or have a relationship with the importer/distributor:

Foillard
Faure
Coche Dury
Raveneau
William Kelley
Guffens-Heynen
Boyer

I’ll play as well. Extremely new to the game but so far the only winemaker I’ve gotten multiple release vintages in a row (2022-2023 - I know 2 years isn’t much of a streak) + actively tried to backfill more vintages is Cecile Tremblay. There are a few cuvees I’m a fan of in her lineup which I’ll grab when I can / when reasonably priced. Have single bottles of a few things and I’m ok with that too. Will 100% be going for 2024s when those come out as well

Chablis…Louis Michel
Beaujolais…Piron and Vissoux
Red Burgundy…it was Hudelot-Noellat
White Burgundy…Jadot

Your favorite Beaujolais producer?

(Time to have that argument again…)

Yes that one

Great, thank you!

I thought if I said “Burgundy” the responses might be limited to Côte d’Or. Fair point.

For me — well, Roumier, Lafarge, and Vogüé. In the almost annual category: Dujac, Ramonet, Rousseau. In the category of “used to be annual but I just accumulated too much “: Faiveley, Dauvissat, Leflaive.

Unfortunately my favorite Côte d’Or producers have all become Veblen goods.

The only wine from that region that I have bought for years that I still go back to periodically is the Jadot Ursules. It’s so consistently good.

Chablis was Raveneau for years but pricing got silly. Michel is really good, but never quite hits the heights for me. Servin is one to watch out for.
