WTB: 1972

Dick Krueger’s recent sale of early 70s Cabs made me yearn for a birth year wine. If you have any '72 Cabs you want to sell, please PM with details. Thanks!

As a 72 baby I’m curious to see what comes about here. I’ve been told that 72 was not a good year for wine anywhere in the world.

Melissa, a good source for older wines is hdhwine.com and their prices are very often more than reasonable. But sometimes the wines may be cooked as HDH just buys from private collectors and storage is anyone’s guess.

Definitely not true! I’m a 72 baby as well. There are quite a few Burgundies that are incredible. I had a 72 La Tache last year that was in my top 10 all-time wines.

Now that Poppy mentions it, had a 72 Le Corton from Prosper Maufoux a couple of years ago that was, if not spectacular, quite delicious.

Here is Michel Abood’s note on it:

1972 Prosper Maufoux Le Corton. Vibrantly light red in color, this speaks to the issue of provenance: gorgeously dynamic strawberry fruit, with some sous-bois and mushrooms on the nose, the palate a definition of elegance, with amazingly youthful light red fruits, backed by secondary notes and a long finish. It did begin to die within about 20 minutes in the glass, but still, what a wonderful find!
