Estimating when?
Is that the wine Antonio was bashing at the modern?
I’m not sure
If so …. He is dead wrong.
Well, that’s a complicated question, because I really can’t say whether this will ever have a shut-down phase. I think (based on one tasting and my amateur status) that they will not, because the bottle I had simply kept getting better without ever shutting down.
So with that in mind I believe these will ride an ascending rainbow arc of enjoyment all the way to their apogee at least 15 years away.
You can certainly enjoy this now — it’s delicious and fascinating. It will be arguably better in 15 years, but also undeniably very different. If you like young Savennieres, by all means try one. I keep my Savennieres for a long time not really because I likely old ones more (although I do like them old) but also because there is no other way to have that kind of experience than by doing it yourself.
Meaning if you want aged Savennieres you have to age them yourself?
I did have a very nice 1990 Joly Serrant summer of 2023.
And I am aging some 2010 and 2011 of the same cuvée as well
Yes, that’s what I meant. I have almost never seen aged Savennieres or Jasnieres on a wine list, and backfilling for the home cellar has been near futile for me. So I have bought current vintages and buried them for at least a decade. Starting on my 2013s this year.
A 1990 Serrant in 2023 sounds just fine, though requiring even more patience than I have. I have had 1986, 1989 and 1990 Jasnieres in the last couple of years that have often been fabulous. Some have cracked up, but when they are intact, they are unforgettable.
Since you mention it, K&L has a number of back vintages of a Savennieres I’m not familiar with, Domaine FL (Fournier Longchamps). I’ve ordered a couple bottles to try but haven’t taken delivery yet.
Interesting! Never had one of theirs.
awesome participation, everyone—thank you all so very much. I still am on track to do the tabulation over the weekend.
We had one of these (‘12 FL Roche Aux Moines) at a big chenin tasting earlier this year, and it was much more on the acid driven, floral side of Savennieres.

Glad to hear about this as I own a brace!
Amazing wine. Wine of my life, not just of the year.
Where can I try that flight… ![]()

Thank you
Thank you

The 2021 is a very special Evangelho (IMHO even beyond the 18).
This caught my eyes, must have been quite a treat. Love the grape when well made and not a shabby winery on top of that ![]()
