I would rather give up wine than be forced to read Reddit.

“… Rioja smells like a pirate.”
Article was worth reading just for that.

That subreddit can be annoying at times (hi to any lurkers from there reading this). There’s a culture of almost fawning obsequiousness, people falling over themselves to not appear like an asshole for having experience with or an opinion about wine. Even MChang will get downvoted there for saying perfectly reasonable things

Don’t forget constant posts of randoms finding their grandfathers old 4ft tall Chianti bottles and wondering how much they’re worth

“How much is this 1971 tourist tchotchke Chianti that’s been stored on the top of my grandmother’s fridge worth, am I rich?”
“What are some other wines that taste like Caymus”
Picture of cool wine with good tasting note that gets no response
Some random guy posting cases of Krug for his two year old’s birthday party
People recommending Jadot Beaujolais and Campo Viejo over and over
MChang getting down voted out of spite
People posting picture of WSET 1 diplomas

Nailed it

You forgot posting AI generated tasting note on wine pictures you found on the internet.

I don’t mind the sub, just don’t necessarily have that much to discuss there. People tend to be either fawning or jealous.

It’s useful for beginners to ask legitimate beginner questions. Most people are supportive and try to help. Everything else is stupid nonsense.
