With the ratings listed by WS, James Laube in this case, and RWP, how many of you can immediately conclude some flavor profiles, without reading the TNs, for these wines concerning:
ripeness of fruit
use and forwardness of oak
alcohol level
I asked a simple question based on rating history and demonstrated flavor profile preferences of these guys. You can fill in the blanks any way you choose. It has nothing to do with whether or not your tastes align with the raters or not, or even your definition of beautiful wines.
As far as tasting the wines. I believe Laube gave the earliest drinking window of any of the wines as being 2010 -2017. So for me, if I was able to get any of the very limited released wines, I probably wouldn’t touch any of them until at least 2012 or so. So if I can, and choose, to score one, I give you my TN’s then. I’ll leave infantcide those those that prefer it.
thread drift: We just got some of the Schrader Zin, some of the most unique and interesting shaped bottles I’ve seen. We opened one last night and decided it needed lots of time and will have it with dinner tonight.
I didn’t take it as “dispersions on these beautiful wines”. Rather knowing the track record of the reviewers and the styles of the wines its more like a safe bet. Laube has told us he doesn’t believe wines should be made for aging. And after his huge scores on the 05 KB’s I think we know he wasn’t whistling Dixie. I’ve tried the Schraders on a couple of occasions. Big ripe oaky modern Napa Cabs. Perfect for massive pricing and label chasing hype. YMMV.
99pts for George III is ridiculous. I have tasted the 06’s numerous times, having worked for Thomas Brown, and while it is tasty, it’s a bit one dimensional for me…big ripe slutty fruit but not much more. If Laube thinks that is 99pts then he is smoking crack.
Tony…you should just swear off California wines all together…I think youll be happier…first you never met a Saxum you ever liked and now you think Schrader is syrup?
Just kidding you of course.
Loved every Schrader Ive tried so far…though I havent tried the G III
