In the last month I have had all three of Wren Hop’s wines at random events (including one at Berserkerfest), and I can say that all three, the “Omens & Prophecy” RRV Pinot, the “Siren’s Lair” Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and the “Shipwreck Savior” Sonoma Coast Chard are excellent wines. They are all unabashedly Californian, with voluptuous textures, high ripeness and good amounts of oak. So if you like (or dislike) that style, then you know what you are in for. They are made by Russell Bevan, and they are similar in style to his own Cabs, and far riper than his Bennet Valley wines from prior years. The Chard, which I had last night at 750 Wines in St Helena, runs $42/bottle, and comes off as a slightly less dense Chard by Luc Morlet. The Pinots are all sexy and fruity, and run $54 and $60. I give them all in the 92-93 range. They are best defined as “hedonistic.” From looking at their website, it looks like all three are available, if you are interested. A winery to watch.
PS- the labels are very cool!
