to open an 08 screaming eagle tonight? we have some friends coming over, and i am kind of in a ’ every once in a while you just have to say wtf’ kind of mood. but at the same time i don’t want to do something really stupid, as i obviously don’t have a lot of this. any thoughts on drinking se in its youth from those of you with experience? thanks in advance.

thanks all, i went for it - my 1st screagle in a long time. started out very nicely, with loads of dark fruit, very balanced, with a nice dose of tobacco. not at all over the top. then she shut down a bit. that’s where i am now - have just shy of 1/2 a bottle left and will drink that with some more air…

It’s great to enjoy special bottles with friends, I would have done the same thing. The monetary value is not IMO a consideration unless you’re buying for an investment, sure some age would make a difference but keep the others stashed. Let us know how it evolves with some more air.

By enjoying special bottles, what Carrie means is she’s more than happy to mail you the empty special bottle once it’s done. That’s her definition of sharing… I’d know!

carrie i thoroughly enjoyed this bottle but i clearly drank it too early, it was relatively forthcoming out of the gate, with the tobacco, cassis notes i mentioned before, then shut down, it eventually opened back up some after several hours but not all of the way. i would definitely advise waiting to open any of these, or at the least decanting for some time. very nice to drink one, though - my first in about 10 years.

Craig, It’s fun to taste them, expensive but fun. I’m not always patient enough to let wines properly age and hell, who knows if I’ll be around to drink them by the time they’re ready.
