Worst since 1984

At a great dinner at Domaine de Chevalier but it rained and rained and rained. Not devastating hail as in the Loire but this morning, speaking to Jean Claude Berrouet, who had been director at Petrus since the 1960s and consults around the world, he told me that conditions for flowering in Bordeaux are the worst since 1984. Not very good elsewhere in France, including Burgundy, I think.

Flowering is late here in the Southern Rhone because of a cold, rainy May. But the weather started warming up for real last week so it may just be a bad start here.
