Woodinville Recs

My wife and I are going to be up in Seattle next week visiting my brother who’s doing a summer internship out there. We’re on our own on Friday and are thinking about hitting some wineries/tasting rooms in Woodinville. Tried searching, and not many recent threads. For WA wine, we tend to skew toward their syrahs moreso than cabs, but we drink a bit of everything. Who should we target? Also wouldn’t mind some recommendations for lunch.

DeLille.

Great variety, high quality, friendly service. It might be obvious, but it seems silly to miss it if you’re going to be in Woodinville.

Our other stops (2 years ago) were good (Pepper Bridge, Mark Ryan) but paled in comparison. I’ve had several good wines from Long Shadows, although we did not visit their tasting room.

Efeste for sure. Avennia if they are open.

Tom

I second the vote for DeLille.

Not wine, but I highly recommend doing the tour at Red Hook Brewery. It’s only a dollar, the tour guides are hilarious, and you get quite a few beers. The food is pretty standard pub fair, but is an option for lunch.

While I’m off topic from wine, you might also check out the Woodinville Whiskey Co (white dog, whiskey, and a pretty decent vodka) and Soft Tail Spirits (some tasty grappas).

/would second Efeste, and would contact Avennia and see if you can arrange something. Gen not open.

DeLille especially. Januik. Avennia. Maybe Gorman or Baer.

Again, Efeste for sure. Near Efeste is Obilesco amongst a slew of other tasting rooms in the wherehouse cluster. I would also add Matthews and JM Cellars as not to be missed. Mark Ryan has already been mentioned but next to him is Ross Andrews.

Purple Cafe for lunch and/or Barking Frog for dinner.

Go taste at Bunnell for great GSM and single vineyard syrah and other Rhone varietals

For full throttle syrah go taste at Gorman, be sure to visit with Joan at the tasting room…

Cougar Crest. their cabernet franc is really great.

While you are in the area around Efeste I recommend Robert Ramsay. They have several Syrahs and some nice Grenache and Mourvedre.

If you have one day:

If you like hugeeeee wines:
Efeste
Mark Ryan
Ross Andrews
Gorman

If you like slightly less huge, but still big:
Baer - wife’s fav
Matthew Estate
Long Shadow
Delille (can be debatable whether this is in the prior category or not)

Others:
Laurent Ashton - New ones I haven’t tried but look forward to trying… apparently it’s good
JM Cellar - pretty location - wine is average, but the location is nice
Januik - nice pretty facility - but wine is overprice for my liking
Brian Carter - interesting blends - not the usual cab, merlot, syrah only… so a fun place
Pepperbridge/Amavi - yah they’re there… yah they’re not bad… but really nothing too special.
Di Stefano - my parents like these guys… the owner/winemaker is really a nice guy… wine is decent and prices are reasonable.

Brunch @ Barking frog = the breakfast stuff is really good, i.e. the french toast.
Another good brunch spot is called “Brown Bag Cafe”. huge breakfast portions… it’s a couple of exits drive (about 5 mins, off exit 20A on i405).

Since i live in Woodinville, I really should make it out to Avennia… seems highly recommended.

Thanks everyone for the responses. More here than I could possibly hit in an afternoon. champagne.gif

The nice thing about Woodinville is you can hit DeLille, Mark Ryan, Ross Andrew, Gorman, Pepperbridge/Amavi, Januik, Brian Carter and Long Shadows all within 1 mile of each other. Figure out which styles are best suited for you and enjoy the area. Matthews Estate is maybe another 1/4 to 1/2 mile down the road from all of these and Friday evenings they typically have live music outdoors and some form of food truck on site for nosh. Enjoy Woodinville, makes me miss the tasting room work on the weekends.

Avennia, Baer and Adams Bench. Guardian was fun as well. We were there two weeks ago. I’ve posted a blog post re: Avennia if you’re interested.
Barking Frog and Purple were great.
