Wintering in Mesa AZ

Be there Jan-end of Mar.

Any members in the vicinity?

Suggestions?

I was there for a long weekend a few years ago. Phoenix was pretty neat and Scottsdale was worth the trip. Mesa didn’t seem too eventful, but maybe I was in a bad neighborhood.

In Scottsdale I had good sushi at a place called Stingray.

I have also had some decent Arizona wines!

Thanks, Mesa is just the free roost on a golf course. We will use it as a base for explorations and our trip to PV Mexico that we usually do from Boston. I’ll give the Sushi a try.

walking around downtown Phoenix was fun. and of course, if you haven’t been to grand canyon, you gotta go!

I move from Oregon to Scottsdale every month or soto. Lots to do in the Valley of the Sun, great eats.

checkout closely chowhound.com, many postings about local places to eat.

Probably the most wine friendly place close to you is Atlas Bistro, near Thomas and Scottsdale Road. You enter through the AZ Wine Co. If you buy a reasonably priced bottle of wine at AZWC there is free corkage. Good food and very wine friendly.

Spring baseball is really fun, lots of venues in the Valley and cheap tickets, good sun and laidback baseball.

Enjoy the sun, good hiking, great food, baseball and all the Scottsdale hotties.

Doesn’t indicate you can order ala carte ?

Will do some of that, thanks. Let me know if you make there when I am.

wow you are right! we definitely ordered a la carte when I was there. I hope they didn’t change their ways. I assume they don’t want to list a bunch different fish on the website that they may not have in stock?

odd…

I am settling in and getting used to the dryness. I am constantly using saline nose spry and lip balm.

I posted a lovely place in Scottsdale who would host a OL for us.

See the OL toic for second week in Feb.

Ron, Back Street Wine Bar on 36th and Indian School Rd. is the place where we held most of our Offlines. Also, very good food and service. Ask for Jock.
Jack

We dined there Thursday and enjoyed it and Jock. alas sorry to inform the locals here that the Cafe is closing Sat. with the wine store staying open until the inventory is sold off.

Carrie and used to enjoy Don & Charlies in Scottsdale many years ago when we attended spring training with the Giants. It had great ribs. Jack should have a finger on the pulse down there.

Very, very sad to hear that. Enjoyed Patrice’s cooking and Jock’s company many times.

It is sad. Our economy still really sucks here. [cry.gif]

Leaving at the end of next week. We had a lovely time here and look to return.
Several OL’s and meeting the locals and some like Josh W. who is now relocated here from B-Town. We did about 85% of what we pre-planned and much that we didn’t.

Hopefully we can get together next year. Flying down on the 25th for the closing weekend of spring training. Will be back again after April 15th for a few weeks of nice weather.

I look forward it as well.
